Core Passive Nitro-Fuel Cocktail
When Burnice expends Energy, she accumulates Heat, up to a max of 100. She gains 1.4 Heat for each 1 point of Energy consumed. At 50 Heat, she enters the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state until all Heat is expended. Upon entering the battlefield, Burnice instantly accumulates 100 Heat.
While in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state, when Burnice hits an enemy with a Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend, EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, she applies the Scorched effect to the target until she exits the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state. When other squad members hit enemies under the Scorched status, it triggers the Afterburn effect, expending 8 Heat to deal Fire DMG equal to 175 of Burnice's ATK and accumulate Fire Anomaly Buildup. This effect can trigger once every 1.5s. For every 10 Anomaly Proficiency, Afterburn DMG increases by 1%, up to a max of 30%. DMG from the Afterburn effect is considered Assist Attack DMG.

As a Sub-DPS who doesn't need to steal the field time from other characters, she can be easily slotted into various teams.
Incredible Fire Anomaly Application - ideal for Burn or Disorder-focused teams.
Can deal a significant portion of her damage and Anomaly application while off-field doubling down on her low field-time playstyle.
Has surprisingly high direct damage multipliers for an Anomaly character giving her the option to gain extra damage through stats such as Critical Rate and Critical Damage if you find it on gear.
Easy To Play.
Reliant on energy and/or Ultimate to generate “Heat” and keep her kit fully functional - as such resource management is required.
Burnice is a S-Rank Melee Fire Anomaly Agent who brings forth a unique playstyle of passively dealing a good part of her damage and Anomaly Buildup while being off-field. Complimenting this, she doesn’t require much time on-field in first place, and to no surprise of anyone, being an Anomaly character she excels at applying and amplifying Burn Disorder quickly and consistently - making her a top choice for Anomaly/Disorder teams, especially ones with characters who can take up the field-time Burnice doesn’t really require. To understand exactly what makes this Pyromaniac cyclist work let's dive into her playstyle and kit!
Her play style primarily focuses on marking enemies with her special “Scorch” status and building & utilizing her special resource “Heat” - all the while taking minimal field time and using her most powerful abilities to apply massive amounts of Fire Anomaly. Enemies that are Scorched by Burnice suffer great damage and Anomaly when hit by any squad member other than Burnice. That's possible thanks to her Core Passive (that works even when she's off-field) at the cost of consuming her “Heat” count slightly. Continuously triggering Afterburn on Scorched targets is her game plan and in order to do the same she needs to build and maintain a good amount of “Heat” consistently. It can be achieved by either using her Ultimate or spending energy. This leads to a gameplay loop of Scorching the enemies, building and maintaining “Heat” with EX-Special/Ultimate, and going off-field. Now with the basics covered let's get into the nitty gritty!
Burnice’s Core Passive - Nitro-Fuel Cocktail is the source of her most important mechanics - “Heat” resource, “Scorch” status and Afterburn damage off-field. Let’s start with “Heat” first Burnice starts the battle with and can hold up to 100 “Heat” at a time. She gains 1.4 “Heat” per 1 energy spent and upon reaching 50 “Heat” enters the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail State which she will maintain until her “Heat” reaches 0. After which she’ll need to reach 50 again to re-enter.
While in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail State she gains access to a new Enhanced Basic Attack and is able to apply the “Scorch” status when hitting enemies with any of the following abilities:
Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend (Nitro-Fuel Cocktail Enhanced Basic Attack)
Any EX-Special Attack
Chain Attack
Ultimate
As mentioned earlier, whenever a Scorched enemy takes damage from a squad member other than Burnice, they suffer Afterburn taking up to 350% of Burnice’s ATK as Assist Attack type damage immediately and a good chunk of Fire Anomaly buildup at the cost of 8 “Heat” per activation. Afterburn can only trigger once every 1.5 seconds and as soon as the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state ends at 0 “Heat” all scorches will be removed immediately. As an added bonus for every 10 Anomaly Proficiency Burnice has, her Afterburn damage is boosted by 1% up to 30% (Requires 300 Anomaly Proficiency).
Burnice’s standard Basic Attack is a multi-part combo consisting of 5 attacks with Physical and Fire hits mixed in. None of these hits deal much damage or interact with “Heat” resource, “Scorch” status, or Afterburn so aren’t usually used.
Bar this she gains access to the Special Charged Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend when in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail State. Upon pressing and holding the Basic Attack button, she immediately consumes up to 20 “Heat” to perform a channeled spinning attack that applies “Scorch”, good Fire Anomaly, and deals reasonable damage. This ability is ideal for quick application of “Scorch” without any conditions or consumption of energy when you have maximum “Heat”, additionally while this ability consumes up to 20 “Heat” it is still useable with even 1 “Heat” as long as you’re still within the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state.
Burnice’s Dash Attack and Dodge Counter, similar to her standard Basic Attacks, have no bearing on her “Heat” or “Scorch” mechanics so they aren’t used outside of niche scenarios where you need to avoid damage or close a gap.
Also in a similar vein is her Quick Assist and Assist Follow-Up. These attacks do reasonable damage and apply strong Anomaly for their field-time requirements but aren’t critical for her gameplay. As such if the opportunity to use them arises they’re worthwhile but not mandatory in any case.
Her Ultimate as we’ve covered earlier is an ability you should absolutely consider using whenever the team has the Decibels available and her “Heat” isn’t capped out. It hits incredibly hard, deals a tremendous amount of Anomaly, and takes up very little field time for how effective it is - all thanks to the fact that halfway through casting it she triggers a Quick Assist for her teammates and can switch out while she continues casting it off-field. On top of all this, her Ultimate generates her 50 “Heat” allowing her to keep her Afterburn trigger continuously without being solely reliant on her energy if timed correctly. Her Chain attack is also worth using when available as long as no other team member requires their Chain Attack to function - it deals a decent chunk of damage, large amounts of Fire Anomaly build-up, and is relatively quick to use.
Finally let's talk about her Special and EX-Special attacks. As with most characters, Burnice’s standard Special Attack isn’t used. Although when it comes to her EX she has two of them - “Standard Shot” and “Double Shot” - both of them are channeled Flamethrower attacks that deal continuous damage, massive Fire Anomaly, consume energy over a short duration and deal an explosion at the end. The difference between the two is as follows:
“Standard Shot” consumes a relatively small amount of energy over its duration, makes use of only one of her Flamethrowers, and allows her to reposition mid-channel by strafing left or right.
“Double Shot” on the other hand consumes significantly more energy (over 2x), uses both of her Flamethrowers, deals more Anomaly and damage, lacks repositioning, and has an activation requirement.
In most cases, it’s advisable to use “Double Shot” as it has a similar channel time to “Single Shot” but does significantly more damage and Anomaly application while also converting her energy into “Heat” at a faster pace. In order to access “Double Shot” when using the EX-Special instead of the standard “Single Shot” simply tap the EX twice in quick succession (which will cause it to swap from “Single” to “Double” after a short delay) or make use of the EX immediately after any of the following abilities to skip out on having to double tap the ability (Executes with no delay);
Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend
Chain Attack: Fuel-Fed Flame
Assist Follow-Up: Scorching Dew
As a final bonus, her Additional Ability grants her 65% additional Fire Anomaly Buildup to the following abilities;
Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend
Both EX Special Attacks “Single” and “Double”
Afterburn
On top of this, it also extends all Burns inflicted by the squad by 3 seconds. It goes without saying this Additional Ability is worth activating and should always be a goal to consider when building a team for Burnice.
Now let’s bring it all together - when playing Burnice all you need to worry about is to keep your enemy consistently Scorched and maintain a healthy amount of “Heat” via timely Ultimate and EX-Special “Double Shot” use. Outside of this other abilities can be optionally used but focusing on granting your allies as much field time as possible while her Afterburn constantly triggers is generally her best play. As it should be clear by now that without “Heat”, she can’t make use of a very large part of her kit and to maintain it she either needs a steady supply of energy for EX’s or the use of her Ultimate. As such she is definitely one of the more energy-hungry characters - more so in long drawn-out fights. To remedy this somewhat ensure no “Heat” is wasted when using EX-Specials or Ultimates.
In conclusion, Burnice serves as a top-tier Anomaly Sub-DPS option especially when paired with characters who can make use of the field-time she frees up. If you’re looking to further invest into Anomaly, specifically Disorder, she's a great addition to any endgame roster.
This tier list assesses characters based on their combat potential in Zenless Zone Zero’s current most demanding content, Shiyu Defense (SD). SD is a mode similar to Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss or Honkai Star Rail’s Memory of Chaos and requires multiple teams, Disk Drives and good W-Engines. This mode offers a reasonable mix of Boss encounters (single target) and Elite packs (2-3 targets), allowing multiple characters to find a niche but in the end, there is a bias toward single target focused characters at the top-end and tier list ratings will reflect that.
Please keep in mind Zenless Zone Zero is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Zenless Zone Zero is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.

The W-Engines are listed in order of priority. Sometimes the percentages appearing near them won't reflect their performance as pure damage or Stun output isn't the only thing we're looking at - the utility of the W-Engine might be more important than the calculations imply.

Playing Burnice is incredibly simple, as her only objectives in combat are:
When considering “Heat” generation it’s important not to waste any or run out of it for extended periods of time. Tere are a few things to note:
As a general rule:
At the beginning of combat Burnice starts in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state and with 100 “Heat” - use this to your advantage. Start off by scorching enemies with the use of Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend instead of overcapping your “Heat” with an immediate EX use.
After, you can follow up immediately with EX-Special Attack: Intense Heat Stirring Method - Double Shot. For maximum damage, or alternatively Swap-Out Burnice to conserve “Heat” and allow Afterburn to do its thing.
Burnice and Yanagi make one of the strongest Anomaly duos in the game at the time of Yanagi’s release, creating an incredibly powerful Disorder team composition. As a main field Disorder Specialist Yanagi prefers team mates who can apply DoT based Anomalies quickly and consistently while taking up as little field time as possible. Burnice more than fulfills all of these requirements giving Yanagi all the field time she needs while constantly applying anomaly through her Afterburn alongside strong burst application from her EX-Specials and Ultimates resulting in frequent and huge Disorder triggers.
Jane is a great Anomaly/Disorder DPS partner for Burnice. She utilizes all available field time Burnice grants the team through her incredibly powerful Basic Attack combos, triggering constant Assaults which synergize excellently with Burnice’s frequent Burns to trigger absolutely monstrous Disorders. Both characters also trigger each other's Additional Ability freeing up the final slot for many different team building options.
Alternative primary Anomaly/Disorder DPS teammate for Burnice who can output excellent Physical Anomaly application during her EX-Special attack, triggering some impressive Disorders when aligned correctly. However, she has far more limited options compared to Jane outside of her main EX combo to fill field time, making her somewhat energy hungry but with careful planning she still forms a powerful synergy with the correct third supporting team mate.
Burnice does her best in double DPS teams where she can truly put her off-field damage on display. As such support characters that are able to buff both DPS are more impactful. Lucy is one of such buffers - by being able to apply her Cheer buff to the whole team all at once and maintain it permanently, she grants a significant Flat Attack boost. Furthermore, Lucy requires very little field time of her own granting even more field time to the main DPS of your choice. However, one potential downside of Lucy is that she applies her own Fire Anomaly sometimes, resulting in a slight dilution of Burnice’s own Burns in pure Fire teams or if you’re not able to trigger Disorder fast enough.
If a column has multiple characters, the bigger one is the priority choice for the team while the smaller ones are alternatives. If they are the same size, either of them can be used.

Calculations
Don't use the damage output calculations as an indication on who is worth pulling or investing as those are just simulations and in day-to-day gameplay there's a lot variables and also the skill of the player is important. As usual, don't compare the numbers between characters.
Important!
Important! Burnice does a large amount of her damage and anomaly application while off the field thanks to her Afterburn Mechanic. This, combined with the fact she requires very little field time to maintain her kit results in significantly inflated DPS numbers compared to other characters. While Burnice's DPS relative to her field time is high she still takes a significant amount of combat time for that damage to finally be delivered keep in mind DPS figures displayed are total damage dealt in a fight vs field time committed.
Rotation time: 5.47s for Burst and 3.05s for Standard.
Here are the rotations used in the calculations.
Burnice Afterburn Full Rotation
Burnice's goal in combat is to consistently maintain enough Heat to continually activate her Afterburn core passive effect while minimising her field time and triggering as many Burn anomalies as possible. The very streamlined rotation listed below is focused on minimizing field time while maximizing anomaly application and heat efficiency, actual combat may require adjustments based on enemies, team composition and decibel/energy availability.
- Chain Attack: Fuel-Burnt Flames
- EX Special Attack: Searing Swing - Double Take (Double Tap Special to Access)
- Ultimate: Enjoy the Flames
- Assist: Afterburn
Burnice No Stun Low Resource Rotation:
For comparisons sake we've also included Burnice's damage profile when she doesn't have access to her Ultimate in teams and the enemy doesn't receive a stun frequently enough to be noteworthy. Note maintaining Scorch with the below will require less field time but will also cause Heat management to be entirely reliant on Burnice's energy while also dealing less direct damage and anomaly application.
- EX Special Attack: Searing Swing - Double Take (Double Tap Special to Access)
- Assist: Afterburn
And here are the W-Engines and Disk Drives used in the calculations.
