Core Passive Nitro-Fuel Cocktail
When Burnice expends Energy, she accumulates Heat, up to a max of 100. She gains 1.4 Heat for each 1 point of Energy consumed. At 50 Heat, she enters the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state until all Heat is expended. Upon entering the battlefield, Burnice instantly accumulates 100 Heat.
While in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state, when Burnice hits an enemy with a Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend, EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, she applies the Scorched effect to the target until she exits the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state. When other squad members hit enemies under the Scorched status, it triggers the Afterburn effect, expending 8 Heat to deal Fire DMG equal to 175 of Burnice's ATK and accumulate Fire Anomaly Buildup. This effect can trigger once every 1.5s. For every 10 Anomaly Proficiency, Afterburn DMG increases by 1%, up to a max of 30%. DMG from the Afterburn effect is considered Assist Attack DMG.

Review
This tier list assesses Agents (characters) based on their combat potential in Zenless Zone Zero’s most demanding contents - Deadly Assault (DA) and Shiyu Defense (SD). Please keep in mind Zenless Zone Zero is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Zenless Zone Zero is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.
Endgame Modes
Requires minimal field time to function, thanks to off-field playstyle;
Strong Fire Anomaly Application - ideal for Burn or Disorder-focused teams;
Easy To Play.
Reliant on energy and/or Ultimate to generate “Heat” and keep her kit fully functional - as such resource management is required.
Burnice is an S-rank Fire Anomaly Agent and one of the first Secondary characters who specializes in dealing damage and applying Anomaly from off-field via her Afterburn mechanic. Taking part in occasional short bursts of field time while letting the Primary DPS of the team shine is what defines her playstyle.
Burnice has her own unique resource called Heat, up to 100 points at Mindscape 0, displayed below her HP bar. Using her EX Special replenishes this gauge progressively as Energy is consumed (1.4 Heat per Energy), while using her Ultimate always restores 50 Heat. She also enters battle at 100 Heat by default, and enters a state called Nitro-Fuel Cocktail automatically at 50 Heat or above until all Heat is expended.
In this state, hitting an enemy with an EX Special, Chain Attack, Ultimate or Charged Basic Attack applies the Scorched effect to enemies, which lasts until she exits Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state. This effect allows any party member’s attacks other than her own to trigger an effect called Afterburn. Afterburn is an instance of damage that requires and expends 8 Heat when triggered, applying Anomaly off-field and being able to critically hit. This damage is dependent on Burnice’s ATK and up to 300 Anomaly Proficiency giving it 30% DMG Bonus, and is considered Assist Attack DMG.
With her Additional Ability active, the Anomaly Buildup of all the attacks listed earlier that trigger the Scorched effect as well as Afterburn is increased by up to 65% when they hit enemies. In addition, the duration of Burn is increased by 3s, which also influences the maximum damage dealt by Burn Disorders.
Burnice’s EX Special has 2 variants: the normal variant and the Double Shot variant. Double Shot will always want to be used as it is the fastest way to expend Energy and in other words accumulate Heat in this process. It also deals roughly double the damage of her regular EX Special, applies more Anomaly and higher Daze so there is no reason not to use it. Double Shot can be activated by pressing EX Special after casting the normal variant, and it can also be quickly accessed after her Charged Basic Attack’s finishing move or her Assist Follow-Up.
Burnice’s 5-part Basic Attack string is typically not worth using and works as expected. More interestingly however, holding her Basic Attack with at least 20 Heat stored will consume 20 Heat for Burnice to trigger a Charged Basic Attack, ending it with a finishing move. This move is however always a damage loss while also expanding Heat, which is a resource heavily limited by her energy regeneration and hence should essentially never be used.
While Burnice’s Chain Attack is nothing too special, her Ultimate is interesting as it triggers a Quick Assist in the middle of its animation, as Burnice leaps into the air. When this Quick Assist is activated, the Ultimate will be extended, dealing more damage, Daze and inflicting higher Anomaly.
Burnice’s regular Basic Attack string, regular Special, Dodge and Assist-related moves all work as you’d expect them to. Aside from her Assist Follow-Up allowing her to immediately use her Double Shot EX Special, none do anything special so we will not go over them in detail.
Burnice is a character who mostly operates off-field and this makes playing her optimally really easy. Locked behind her Energy and Decibels to deal big damage and trigger Afterburn, she will operate on-field every once in a while, ideally switching in from a Perfect Assist or simply when Heat needs to be replenished. Because Defensive Assists generate a lot of decibels, parrying with Burnice is pretty important for maintaining a high count of decibels for frequent ultimate and hence heat generation access. Once it is replenished, she switches out and deals Afterburn off-field damage. In other words, she is characterized by short but big on-field bursts of Anomaly and damage, and long off-field phases from which she provides a secondary source of damage and Anomaly application. This makes Burnice a good choice for Disorder teams with a main on-field Anomaly Agent like Yanagi, Jane Doe, Piper or Alice for example.
However, Burnice does face a lot of comparison to another Anomaly Agent who doesn’t come on-field often, being Vivian. Vivian deals significantly more damage than Burnice does, hence the gap in firepower between the two is more than enough to justify Vivian’s presence on the team over Burnice’s, pretty much regardless of match-ups. Hence, in the Anomaly Secondary DPS department, she tends to be rather outclassed nowadays.
With that being said, Burnice remains a strong contender for Anomaly teams as a primarily off-field Secondary DPS Agent, and while she does get compared to more recent releases nowadays, she remains strong enough in her role to be taken into account when building a lot of Anomaly teams where she’s effective and very easy to play all at once.
Playing Burnice is incredibly simple, as her only objectives in combat are:
When considering “Heat” generation it’s important not to waste any or run out of it for extended periods of time. Tere are a few things to note:
As a general rule:
At the beginning of combat Burnice starts in the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state and with 100 “Heat” - use this to your advantage. Start off by scorching enemies with the use of Basic Attack: Mixed Flame Blend instead of overcapping your “Heat” with an immediate EX use.
After, you can follow up immediately with EX-Special Attack: Intense Heat Stirring Method - Double Shot. For maximum damage, or alternatively Swap-Out Burnice to conserve “Heat” and allow Afterburn to do its thing.
Build and teams
The W-Engines are listed in order of priority. Sometimes the percentages appearing near them won't reflect their performance as pure damage or Stun output isn't the only thing we're looking at - the utility of the W-Engine might be more important than the calculations imply.
The top number shows the relative performance of the W-Engine when looking at Burnice playing with teammates, while the bottom number in the 'vacuum', so just Burnice's performance solo. You can find more information about them in the Calculations tab.
For the team calculations, here's the team setup we used for them:
100%
While off-field, the equipper's Energy Regen increases by 0.6/0.75/0.9/1.05/1.2 per second. When hitting an enemy with an EX Special Attack or Assist Attack, the equipper's DMG increases by 3.5/4.4/5.2/6.1/7%, stacking up to 10 times and lasting for 6s. This effect can trigger once every 0.3s. While off-field, the stack effect is doubled. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Upon obtaining the DMG increase effect, if the number of current stacks is greater than or equal to 5, then the equipper's Anomaly Proficiency increases by 50/62/75/87/100. This Anomaly Proficiency increase does not stack and lasts for 6s.
90.07%
When there are enemies inflicted with Attribute Anomaly on the field, the equipper's ATK increases by 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% and they deal an additional 15/17.5/20/22.5/25% more DMG to the target.
86.48%
Whenever a squad member inflicts an Attribute Anomaly on an enemy, the equipper gains a buff that increases Anomaly Proficiency by 30/34/38/42/46, stacking up to 4 times. This effect expires when the target recovers from Stun or is defeated. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.
100%
Most flexible and usually strongest option for Burnice, with bonuses tailor-made to work excellently with her kit and game plan. Grants 30 Anomaly Proficiency and 15% Fire/Electric Dmg% unconditionally as well as a combat buff boosting EX Special and Assist damage by 20% for 5 seconds after switching on field with a 7.5 seconds cooldown, but also grants the buff permanently while Burnice remains off-field, meaning it will always be active for her Afterburns.
Best combined with your choice of 2-PC Set:
Substats: Anomaly Proficiency > ATK% > PEN > ATK
ATK: 2500 - 3200+ (Depends on the W-engine and Drive main stats)

Anomaly Proficiency: 350 - 400+
Anomaly Mastery: 153+

Calculations
Don't use the damage output calculations as an indication on who is worth pulling or investing as those are just simulations and in day-to-day gameplay there's a lot variables and also the skill of the player is important. As usual, don't compare the numbers between characters.
ZZZ has changed a lot from 1.0 - many new mechanics, enemies and characters have been introduced and biggest of all the game has a new competitive endgame mode Deadly Assault. Deadly Assault is based around dealing as much damage as possible in 180 seconds, because of this we're changing our calculation style away from a focus on burst to instead focus on extended fights over 3 minutes (180s). Also, many Mindscape, Disc Drive and W-enigne calculations can meaningfully change when factoring in the buffs of an Agents best team, for this reason we're also adding a new feature, allowing you to see damage output with one of the agents best teams buffs factored in. We're starting this overhaul off with Alice but will be updating all other characters on the site soon, for this reason, do not compare her calculations to other characters at this time!
This character uses our new calculation format for this reason, do not compare her calculations to older character. We'll be updating all DPS characters soon.
For the team calculations (purple chart), here's the team setup we used for them (keep in mind that with different team members, the damage output will look different):
And here are the W-Engines and Disk Drives used in the calculations.
