Wuthering Waves Team Tier list (3.2 Patch)

We offer separate tier lists that assess characters based on different criteria due to the diversity of character traits and abilities that different contents require in order to beat them. As a result, we recommend that you check all of the tier lists we offer before concluding on a character’s full position in the game’s meta. The better they perform in a variety of gamemodes, the more valuable they are overall.

Our Team Tier Lists focus on the performance of full meta teams within the game’s hardest contents, Tower of Adversity (ToA) and Whimpering Wastes (WhiWa), grading their peak potential at different levels of play. Off-meta teams are not considered, we strictly focus on the performance of the best teams of all characters in the game and put their performances up against one another.

Important! Teammates are ordered from left to right, top to bottom within a team slot based on strength. Teams are ordered alphabetically within a tier.

Criteria

The Team Tier List has no categories and instead rates full teams. We aim to compare teams against one another while ensuring that all meta-relevant teams are ranked for each character, and to include as many viable, but unique team archetypes that encompass the full character cast if possible (or at least the ones that are meta-relevant).

A team can have multiple characters filling the same slot or same purpose. In those instances, alternatives will be listed as long as they are worth considering for a similar degree of performance than what is listed on our Tier List. But remember that the lower down the list of alternatives you go, the more a team’s Tier List placement is subject to be lowered compared to what is shown on Prydwen.

Team placements are determined by performance of the team within their respective gamemode, Tower of Adversity or Whimpering Wastes depending on the Tier List you view

The characters listed aren’t the only ones that are viable for a given character’s team, but are the ones capable of outputting the most damage. For more information on alternatives and their performance against one another, please refer to individual character pages, where we go in-depth on their Teams & Synergies. Finally, keep in mind lower tier characters are less likely to appear in the case of a much lower performance in regards to team damage output/effectiveness in the gamemode graded by the Tier List viewed.

For character-specific Criteria, refer to our general Tier List.

About Skill Ceilings

We cannot expect players reading the Tier List to play like AI, inputting every action as quickly as theoretically possible, perfectly optimized for maximum DPS, and without any mistakes. This means we at a baseline can only compromise and consider the most powerful Swap Cancels and Animation Cancels (think switching out of animations that are several seconds long and easy-to-input Animation Cancels), and generally speaking the characters will be judged using the rotations that serve as the baseline for calculations on the character pages in an order that makes sense given their role on the team. We do this in an attempt to try to portray a Tier List that will be as accurate as possible to the majority of our readers.

Special tags

More complex techniques and skill need to be taken into account in some capacity, since a Tier List needs to grade characters or teams when played optimally. Hence, those cases will be reserved for a special tag, called Expert, which can alter team performance when played at a more optimized level (still different from theoretical perfection, but closer to practical perfection with the purpose of clearing endgame contents in mind — which means speedrun-exclusive techniques still won’t be considered). This will not affect the character’s base position on the Tier List, but teams with the tag could be considered to be able to perform higher depending on player skill. On the Team Tier List, a specific teammate may be the team’s reason for obtaining the Expert Tag due to enabling a separate, more advanced playstyle - the best teammate is still determined based on highest baseline performance, however for more information on Expert teammates and alternative playstyles, we strongly recommend visiting the characters’ individual “Gameplay & Teams” sections for more information.

Finally, some teams may be put on a Watchlist in the case that their placement is subject to fluctuation but not finalized. Such teams will be marked with a Watchlist tag, which may cause them to either go Up or Down 1 tier on the Tier List based on specification. We welcome your feedback about the performance and future Tier List placement of watchlisted teams on our Discord server!

Meta Lines

Meta Lines categorize each section of the tier list into a power bracket. Here are the three brackets:

  • Apex Teams - The teams in this bracket are the best of the best, and generally have the highest performance when played at their peak. They will allow for the most comfortable clears for both casuals and experts, consistently displaying high performance across a wide variety of encounters and battle scenarios within the specifications of the gamemode.
  • Strong Teams - Teams in this bracket still have the capabilities required to clear endgame contents with relative ease, however they’re lacking something when compared to Apex Teams. This can be for a wide variety of reasons, but common themes are a lower degree of performance, a much higher barrier to entry which makes them less casual-friendly, or an inability to succeed in the widest variety of battle scenarios possible, only specializing in specific kinds of encounters.
  • Niche Teams - Teams in this bracket start displaying much lower performance especially when compared to the top tier teams. They have one fundamental flaw that makes them comparatively worse to higher tier teams, or they have multiple smaller flaws that add up together. More often than not, they cover a niche that’s filled by another higher-tier team that performs much easier than them. They’re played noticeably less and will require higher maintenance to perform due to not being on the same standard.

Small placement updates for Sigrika Hypercarry, as well as 2 teams in Whimpering Wastes:

Tower of Adversity changes:

  • Sigrika Hypercarry: T0.5 → T0. Her DPS alongside Qiuyuan and Ciaccona is one of the highest we’ve seen and the only one that gets close to Aemeath. When invested properly, Sigrika tears any content in her path, warranting a bump up to T0.

Whimpering Wastes changes:

  • Sigrika Hypercarry T1 → T0.5. Sigrika is the first character we got that can approach Phrolova’s dominance in the gamemode. Provided you time her Ultimate correctly (of which the time window to cast it can be delayed or rushed accordingly to what you need) in order to clear out an enemy wave at the most opportune time, she can score much higher than almost any other team in the mode (again save for Phrolova) warranting her team a T0.5 placement thanks to what we mentioned earlier alongside her team’s ability to use the Echo Skill purple token for very strong results.
  • Iuno Hypercarry T2 → T3. The level of performance of Iuno’s hypercarry team in Whimpering Wastes is lower than what the Team Tier List originally depicted due to the team’s poor AoE capabilities, leaving a lot to be desired in terms of the results it can output, warranting a tier drop.
  • Xiangli Yao Hypercarry T2 → T3. Similarly to Iuno Hypercarry, Xiangli Yao’s team suffers in performance compared to what was originally depicted. However, it’s not because of a lack of AoE capabilities this time. Rather, he simply has one of the lowest levels of damage per rotation compared to most limited DPS in the game, which means his damage isn’t sufficient enough to clear out waves of enemies and he ends up stuck on the same wave for a while, providing rather subpar results in the end. We hence estimated a tier drop warranted for his team as well.

Sigrika’s release didn’t shake up the meta a lot in the sense that the standard for modern DPS characters for performance has stayed about the same. Nevertheless, some of our Tier List placements and tags could use some revision, so let’s detail what we changed below:

General Changes:

  • To accommodate for Sigrika’s release, we renamed the “Phrolova Hypercarry” team to “Phrolova Echo” and added Sigrika in the 2nd slot while removing Danjin.

Tower of Adversity changes:

  • Sigrika Hypercarry added as T0.5. Sigrika is displaying very strong performance as expected of her being a modern 3.x DPS. Her best teams with Qiuyuan will provide super strong results, even if he’s really essential to composing Sigrika teams at their full strength.

Whimpering Wastes changes:

  • Sigrika Hypercarry added as T1. Sigrika has the ability to group enemies, deals lots of damage concentrated in several abilities with a noticeable AoE throughout her rotation, and her team with Qiuyuan and Ciaccona has good damage uptime and can use the Echo Skill purple token to its fullest potential. It’s hard to mess up her and her team’s rotation and it displays features that make other teams strong and consistent, Sigrika Hypercarry hence performs better than the majority of teams in Whimpering Wastes overall, netting her a good placement on the list.
  • Galbrena Hypercarry T1.5 → T1. Thanks to the Echo Skill purple token, Galbrena’s Hypercarry team provides good, easy-to-acquire results compared to most other teams in the game, which we deemed worthy of bumping her performance up a tier.
  • Jiyan Mono Aero T1.5 → T1. In a very similar reasoning to Galbrena, Jiyan gets a good performance easily in this gamemode in his team with Iuno and Ciaconna, warranting his placement getting bumped up to T1.
  • Aemeath Rupture T1 → T1.5 and Expert +1 Tag added. While Aemeath’s team can and does retain solid performance for the majority of players particularly thanks to her ability to use several purple tokens depending on the team she’s in (including the Rupture token), she does gain significant performance increases when played with a more optimized team rotation which warrants the Expert tag being added.
  • Aemeath Mono Fusion T1 → T1.5 and Expert +1 Tag added. Similar reasoning to Aemeath Rupture.
  • Tri-DPS Fusion Expert +1 removed. The team does not gain strong enough performance increases to be bumped up to T1 when played to its maximum potential as it cannot use the new purple tokens to good extents without Galbrena present in the team (in which case she’s easier used in Hypercarry alongside Lupa + Mornye for example).
  • Luuk Hypercarry Expert +1 Tag added. Luuk’s performance in Whimpering Wastes depends heavily on a player’s ability to position him and allow him to deal high damage to enemies with his lower range attacks, as well as proper wave management to ensure the skill → plunge → ultimate part of his rotation does not go to waste while keeping Outro buffs active on him. Overall, in Whimpering Wastes Luuk needs to manage a lot to perform at a strong level which makes his team warrant the addition of an Expert tag.
  • Jiyan Dual DPS Expert +1 changed to Expert +2. The team displays very strong performance if played properly, particularly thanks to the Negative Status token increasing Ciaccona’s own damage by a lot if she’s properly quickswapped alongside Jiyan for very high damage uptime.

This update only brings one hotfix that was necessary to properly depict Luuk Herssen’s Hypercarry Team placement. More changes will occur alongside the next character release as usual.

Adjusted placement:

  • Luuk Hypercarry (Whimpering Wastes): T1.5 → T3. Please refer to his general Tier List changelog entry for more information (the reasoning is the same).

Hello, we’re here to introduce what’s probably our biggest change to the Tier List to date overall! We revamped our individual Tier Lists to account for some big meta changes and also finally established 2 Team Tier Lists which focus more on the value and performance of complete meta teams rather than characters in a vacuum. We exclusively focused on meta teams here. For off-meta teams, please refer to individual character pages where we go more in-depth on alternatives and their relative performance to other top teammate choices for the characters in question.

Finally, for more information on this Tier List and the technical details of how we rank characters, please refer to the “About the Tier List”, “Criteria and roles”, and “Ratings & Meta Lines” tabs above this changelog. Thank you!
