Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Powerful and versatile support/damage dealer hybrid,

  • Excellent synergy with top units both support and DPS,

  • Scales excellently and has built-in follow-ups and self Action Advances,

  • Can function as a CRIT carry or as a Super Breaker,

  • Fits into almost any comp and can benefit a multitude of teams,

  • Freely available to all and we’ll get all her Eidolons for free (limited to E3 on her release though).

Cons

  • Can be difficult to pilot,

  • Can’t have one build for all playstyles,

  • Less efficient in Pure Fiction if not paired alongside another DPS unit.

Review (By Sushou)

March 7th, The Hunt edition, is an incredibly powerful unit that's obtained entirely for free including Eidolons. She can choose to boost a single ally's SPD and will also get personal benefits to her Enhanced Basic ATK based on the Path of the buffed character, getting either Additional DMG instances or increasing her Weakness Break Efficiency. She deals very high single-target damage and can reduce the Toughness of non-IMG weak enemies, and she can be played as a strong CRIT carry or as a strong Breaker. Because of this, she is extremely flexible.

Everyone's favorite goofball got her own personal anime training arc, and has upgraded from March 7th to March 8th. This new Reignbow Arbiter flavoured form boasts one of the most versatile damage carry kits in the game, and most ridiculous of all is that we're given her for free, and will even get all of her Eidolons over time.

The big focus of March's kit comes from her Enhanced Basic ATK. It initially deals 3 hits, with each dealing up to 80% ATK to a single enemy. After the final hit, there's a 60% fixed chance to deal an extra hit, up to 3 extra hits. This Enhanced Basic cannot recover Skill Points, and will not recover extra Energy with more hits, but as compensation, it will restore a typical Skill's worth of Energy, 30 Energy per usage.

March's big damage comes from her Enhanced Basic ATK, but we've got to get through her other abilities first to understand how everything interacts with one another and where the real juice comes from. This starts at her Skill. March designates a single ally besides herself as Shifu, increasing their SPD by up to 10%. This Shifu designation lasts until March recasts her Skill. March will gain benefits for her Basic ATK and Enhanced Basic ATK based on the Path of her chosen Shifu; if the Shifu follows the Path of Erudition, Destruction, or The Hunt, then her Basic ATK and every singular hit of her Enhanced Basic will deal up to 20% ATK Additional DMG. If the Shifu follows the Path of Abundance, Nihility, Harmony, or Preservation, her Basic ATK and every singular hit of her Enhanced Basic will deal +100% Toughness damage (different from Weakness Break Efficiency).

This unique interaction allows March to be played as a traditional CRIT carry or as a dedicated Super Breaker. On its own, this may not seem impressive enough compared to existing characters who can fill these two roles already, but this is only the surface. March's Ultimate will deal up to 240% ATK to a single enemy and will increase the initial number of hits of her Enhanced Basic by 2 hits, for a new base amount of 5 hits. In addition to this, it will also increase the fixed chance of getting extra hits by 20%, for a new total of 80% fixed chance. This Ultimate has a below-average cost of 110.

Aside from the upfront damage of this Ultimate and its Toughness damage, this will turbo-charge March's next Enhanced Basic to be insanely powerful, potentially dealing up to an insane 800% ATK to a single enemy. Even if you are laughably unlucky and somehow don't get any additional hits, this Enhanced Basic will still do 500% ATK after the Ultimate, which for an attack that costs literally zero Skill Points, that's pretty damn strong.

March's Talent tells us how she gains access to her Enhanced Basic. After the designated Shifu uses an attack or an Ultimate, March 8th gets 1 point of Charge. When she gets at least 7 points of Charge, March will immediately be Action Advanced by 100% and will gain up to an 80% DMG boost for this turn. Her Basic ATK gets Enhanced and she cannot use her Skill. After using her Enhanced Basic ATK, she consumes 7 points of Charge, and can hold up to 10 points at once. March's regular Basic ATK will also generate 1 point of Charge, though her Enhanced Basic will not generate any.

This Talent is nuts; a free way to gain massive amounts of free DMG% as well as getting a full Action Advance for doing nothing more than you were already doing is ludicrous, and depending how you sort her teams, March is getting this quite a bit. You may have noticed that because her primary source of damage is from an Enhanced Basic, and she has no need to use more than a single Skill Point at the start of the fight, March is dealing all this crazy damage and breaking while being COMPLETELY SP POSITIVE. This is absolutely unheard of, and we're not even at the end yet.

See, this is already criminally strong for a free 4-star unit, but we've got her Bonus Ability Traces and Eidolons left. Her A2 will Action Advance March 8th by 25% at the start of combat. Like similar Bonus Abilities from other characters like Robin or Guinaifen, this allows March to be among the first characters to act in a fight, making it easier to designate an ally as Shifu before any actual fighting has started. March's A6 will provide the Shifu with 60% CRIT DMG and 36% Break Effect for 2 turns after March uses her Enhanced Basic ATK, which is a remarkably powerful boost with very high uptime that, once again, is attained by doing what you were already doing.

I had to separate out her A4 because it's quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life. March 8th can reduce the Toughness of enemies whose Weakness Type is the same as the Shifu's Combat Type. Yes, that does mean what you think it means. Whoever March makes the Shifu, that character's Element can now also be damaged by March; if you designate a Fire character the Shifu, March will now also deal Toughness damage to enemies with a Fire Weakness, even if they are not also weak to Imaginary, and she does that at 100% efficiency. For free. If she Breaks the enemy, she triggers Imaginary Break.

We've got a space cowboy who can implant his Weakness Type onto enemies and stops caring about Weaknesses once an enemy is Broken, and we've had an orbital frame who freely implants her Weakness onto enemies. March says 'Don't care. Perish.' Simply deal the Toughness damage, it's just that easy. Now you can carefully pair March with a character who has a good Elemental matchup and laugh maniacally as the enemies get shredded. 'But I don't even have an Imaginary Weakness!', say your enemies. 'Don't care. Perish', says March.

As I said before, we will eventually gain access to all of March's Hunt Eidolons, and they're just as crazy as the rest of her kit. E1 will increase March's SPD by 10% when the Shifu is on the field, essentially granting herself the same SPD bonus as she can grant another character. E2 is the final piece of the puzzle for March's game plan. After the Shifu uses a Basic ATK or Skill to attack an enemy, March 7th will immediately do a follow-up attack equal to 60% ATK to the attacked enemy. This follow-up will also grant 1 point of Charge to March. If there is no primary target, this follow-up will hit a random enemy instead. This can only happen once per turn.

This one Eidolon fully solidifies March 8th's position as a near-universally applicable character. Being able to be paired with damn near anyone and see strong benefits for herself is invaluable on its own, but also being able to play into specific team settings and action verbs pushes her over the edge. Super Break, CRIT, follow-up — whatever you want, you can do it. She's just that good.

E4 will grant March 5 Energy at the start of each turn, further expediting the acquisition of her already cheap and fast regenerating Ultimate, potentially letting March get more Enhanced Basics buffed by her Ultimate. Lastly, E6 will allow her Ultimate to additionally increase the CRIT DMG of her next Enhanced Basic ATK by 50%.

This character is silly. It's silly and I love it. The poster woman of the game is now no longer limited to being a niche Freeze support and decided 'Fine, I'll do it myself.™' As mentioned, she has many great options for teammates and can be played pretty much anywhere so long as you're not sacrificing some other pivotal piece of your team's puzzle. The biggest downside is that you can't have a one-size-fits-all build; if you want to do a dedicated Super Break setup after building for CRIT, you'll need to make some slight adjustments before you can pop off again, but as far as downsides go, it's really not a big deal at all. Please note that I say Super Break here; March doesn’t really work as a Breaker without the Harmony Trailblazer.

Even better is that because she's so SP-positive, you can freely make use of really SP-negative supports like Bronya and take full advantage of both kits. You can pair March with Gallagher and this lets March gain lots of points of Charge very quickly thanks to the frequent actions of Gallagher and lets both of them quickly and easily Break enemies to deal even more damage, and this works in both CRIT and Super Break, and with Bronya’s Action Advance on top of that, you can give Gallagher a crazy amount of actions, thus granting March even more points of Charge. Robin also fits into this category and her kit is similarly synergistic, providing plenty of damage buffs, bonus damage, and of course her signature party-wide Action Advance.

Making a follow-up user your Shifu, such as Topaz, Ratio, Yunli, or Clara, will construct an incredibly strong and accessible follow-up team that can easily destroy enemies; the large amount of follow-up actions will give March many points of Charge quite quickly, and the associated Paths of the aforementioned characters means March gets the additional damage instances on her Enhanced Basic.

Or maybe you want to make your 4-star Wind Dan Heng the Shifu, or some other DPS character like Herta or Himeko, and you just want to see enemies disappear for no extra SP cost. You can do that, too.

Your Imagination really is the limit.

Best Light Cones

The numbers show the percentage damage output increase/decrease compared to the Light Cone marked with 100%.

103.11%

Increases the wearer's CRIT Rate by 18/21/24/27/30%. While the wearer is in battle, for every 10 SPD that exceeds 100, the DMG of the wearer's Basic ATK and Skill is increased by 6/7/8/9/10% and the CRIT DMG of their Ultimate is increased by 12/14/16/18/20%. This effect can stack up to 6 time(s).

Source: Event Warp (limited)

Most consistent and often highest damaging option for CRIT March's personal damage, offering tremendous bonuses based on Speed possessed over 100. Thanks to March favoring a Speed bonus-based 4P set as one of her best and gaining yet more Speed % from her E1 this Cone bonus is reasonably easy to satisfy at (or close to its maximum value) as long as you can secure some Speed sub stats on gear or gain additional Speed from her teammates.

100.68%

For each time the wearer hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by 8/10/12/14/16%, stacking up to 5 time(s). This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets.

Source: Stellar Warp

A reasonably strong option for CRIT March but with a catch. Requires March AND her Shifu to attack just one target at a time in order to maintain the Cone stacks. Attacking a different target with March will of course drop the Cone stacks, but doing so with the Shifu will cause March to launch her follow-up attack at the target of her Shifu's attacks, dropping the stacks in the process if it's different to the one March was attacking.

100.11%

Increase the wearer's CRIT Rate by 18/21/24/27/30% and their follow-up attacks' DMG by 30/35/40/45/50%. After the wearer uses a follow-up attack, apply the Tame state to the target, stacking up to 2 stacks. When allies hit enemy targets under the Tame state, every Tame stack increases the CRIT DMG dealt by 12/14/16/18/20%.

Source: Event Warp (limited)

Topaz's signature Cone and a very competitive option for March's own personal damage but also for her team's damage more - as it provides debuff increasing the team's CRIT DMG. The debuff effect of this Cone also opens up March's main set relic options more allowing her to effortlessly run 4P Wastelander with 0 downtime or even branch out to using 4P Pioneer to boost her damage further. Likely March's best CRIT Cone option when factoring in the team-wide benefits it brings.

100%

Increases the wearer's CRIT rate by 8/10/12/14/16%, and increases their CRIT rate against enemies with HP less than or equal to 50% by an extra 8/10/12/14/16%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their ATK is increased by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 turn(s).

Source: Herta's Store

Good F2P option for March, offering competitive damage bonuses. Does suffer from some of these bonuses being somewhat conditional in nature, but when played around can be kept active an acceptable amount of the time even in March's double damage team compositions.

Alternative option to Rutilant arena with the condition that March must be played alongside another Hunt character. Offers more CRIT RATE than Rutilant Arena, making it appealing if you're lacking in that stat or have an overabundance of the DMG% Rutiliant provides.

Increases the wearer's ATK by 12%. When the wearer's SPD is equal to or higher than 135/160, the wearer deals 12%/18% more DMG.

Another option for March with performance that ranges from slightly below her best options to slightly above depending on how much Speed March reaches in combat and the amount of CRIT RATE, DMG%, and ATK% she's able to gain access to through buffs and Coner. If March only reaches 135 Speed, this planar will be slightly behind her top options but if she can reach the incredibly high value of 160 Speed it can move slightly ahead.

Additional notes for sub-stats
  • Break or CRIT RATE: March 7th's kit allows her to be played as a BREAK (Super Break with Harmony Trailblazer) or CRIT-based damage dealer - each of which has their own stat builds they desire. When building March CRIT it makes sense to completely focus all her attention in this direction but when building her BREAK it can pay if possible to still build up some of her CRIT-related stats to boost her damage as long as the opportunity cost is low - this however is optional.

  • Speed: Thanks to one of March's free Eidolons (E1) granting her 10% additional Speed she can get away with less Speed than other characters in order to reach her desired Speed breakpoint making the Speed values she pursues different than standard.

A strong option for Break March, assuming she is being played alongside Harmony Trailblazer to gain access to Super Break. Increases the wearer's Break Effect by 16%. When the wearer's SPD reaches 145 or higher, the wearer's Break effect increases by an extra 20%.

Most Generic option for Break March offering her a large amount of Break Effect and even more if she can gain at least 145 Speed which with the help of some Speed-focused sub-stats should not be an issue at all considering her free E1 that grants % Speed.

2

(2)

Increase the wearer's SPD by 6%. When the wearer hits enemy targets with Fire Weakness, the wearer's Break Effect increases by 40%, lasting for 1 turn(s).

More potent alternative to Talia but only against fire-weak enemies making it highly conditional.

Build comments

While you want to focus on Break on your sub-stats, getting some Crit stats won't hurt as March is more like a hybrid than pure Break character.

Calculations

Damage Output

The simulation showcases characters damage potential in the 5 cycle turn limit of Memory of Chaos against 1 target and 3 targets. The section below has all the rules listed.

General:

  • Combat is simulated at 5 cycles of in-game time or 850 Action Points,
  • Units are considered to gain 5 additional energy per rotation through combat (taking a hit, killing an enemy or through party members and their Light Cone),
  • Characters and Light Cones are calculated at maximum output starting battle with ramp time removed from stacking buffs (intended to give a constant evaluation of power not dependant on length of fight that can be used to assess maximum power). Additional information about loss of damage due to ramp time can be round attached to related Light Cones, relics and characters,
  • Character rotations are smoothed removing breakpoints relating to Speed and Energy (finishing a fight with 90% energy full or 2 AV off next ability leading to skewed results).

Enemies:

  • Enemies are considered to always have a Break Bar resulting in units all doing 90% of real damage (this doesn't apply to Break characters - they simulate the Break bar correctly),
  • Enemies Speed is set to 140,
  • Enemies are assumed to be at 100% of HP at start of battle and to die at exactly at the end of combat. Which means halfway through the fight they are at 50% HP,
  • Enemies are assumed to have 0 Resistance,
  • Enemies are always considered vulnerable to the attackers element,
  • Enemies are considered level 95 and with DEF included.

Units:

  • All units are level 80,
  • Traces are all unlocked, skills at Level 10 and Basic at Level 6,
  • All units have fully upgraded 5 star relics with 24 desired sub stats out of a possible 54,
  • All units use their Best In Slot 2 and 4 piece sets,
  • All units use Light Cones that are realistically obtainable by all player (excluding Limited LC).

Important! We calculated E3 as the base of March 7th - The Hunt because we will receive enough Eidolons from her event to raise her to E3 instantly. The calculations are also for her Crit-based build, not the Break one.

March 7th - The Hunt in 1 Target scenario

And here are the Relics and the Light Cone used in the calculations above:

Light Cone

Increases the wearer's CRIT rate by 8/10/12/14/16%, and increases their CRIT rate against enemies with HP less than or equal to 50% by an extra 8/10/12/14/16%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their ATK is increased by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 turn(s).
