Character
Introduction

Argenti is a 5 character from the Physical element who follows the Path of Erudition.

A classic knight of the Knights of Beauty. Forthright and candid, this noble and admirable man wanders the cosmos alone, resolutely following the Path of Beauty. Upholding the good name of Beauty is Argenti's duty. To fulfill this responsibility, one's must be pious when one initiates battle, and one must make their opponent yield willingly when one strikes with one's spear.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Great AoE damage potential while still having decent single-target output,

  • Two Ultimates give the player more choice — you can use the cheaper Ultimate in a pinch to finish off a wave,

  • His kit makes him increasingly stronger based on the number of enemies on the field,

  • Gets a lot of free CRIT Rate from his Talent,

  • Compared to many other limited damage dealers, his Eidolons aren't that good and he's already strong at E0,

  • Most of his best offensive supports are 4-stars, so it's easy to build his best teams.

Cons

  • Outside of Pure Fiction, he struggles in other endgame content,

  • His kit is pretty simple as he just uses a big stick to bonk enemies, which may be a con for some,

  • His damage output noticeably drops on turns where he doesn't have his Ultimate, since a majority of his damage comes from it,

  • Erudition units have some of the weakest Light Cone options in the game, meaning you don't have many choices if you don't go for his Signature Cone.

Review (By Sushou)

Argenti is one of the best characters for Pure Fiction where he can showcase his AoE prowess. He does not deal the highest damage in single-target scenarios, but he is nearly unmatched in AoE. His Ultimate can be used at 90 Energy for fast access to AoE damage, but is best used at the huge cost of 180 to be at maximum effectiveness, skyrocketing its upfront damage output and providing 6 extra damage Bounces. This makes his Ultimate powerful in all scenarios, and each Bounce will also deal some Toughness damage as well. With extra CRIT Rate and additional Energy gains from his Talent, Argenti is an exceptional damage dealer.

With flowing locks and just the right amount of comedic cringe, Argenti certainly makes an interesting first impression. Erudition units are steadily becoming more and more appreciated, and Argenti is poised for success. He is a remarkably powerful damage dealer with a simple, yet effective kit.

Argenti’s Skill deals damage to all enemies on the field, up to 120% of his ATK at max Trace level. It’s not exactly the most riveting ability in the game, but out of the similar Erudition Skills across the other characters, it does have the highest multiplier; 120% compared to the common 100% may not seem like a big improvement, but it starts to make a very big difference very quickly as the number of enemies increases.

Argenti’s Ultimate is the first of its kind. It is usable at two different Energy amounts, 90 and 180. At 90 Energy, he will deal minor damage to all enemies, a pretty decent amount for a low-cost Ultimate. However, if you use his Ultimate at 180 Energy, he will instead deal substantially more damage to all enemies and subsequently deal 6 extra instances of single-target damage to a random enemy. This extra damage is in the form of a Bounce attack much like Asta or Sampo’s Skills, meaning each hit will deal its own instance of Toughness damage. It is vitally important to note that each of these Bounces will ignore ‘dead’ targets, meaning no damage is going to be wasted on enemies whose health is already 0 after the first big swing.

Combining these means that Argenti’s 180-cost Ultimate deals an absurd amount of total damage, even against just a single target. If you’re hitting 5 enemies, this Ultimate is nothing short of nuclear. Against AoE content, Argenti’s going to be reaching damage numbers that belong in the Simulated Universe. Even in single-target scenarios, this Ultimate will deal very impressive damage as well as 120 Toughness damage, equivalent Toughness damage to that of an Imbibitor Lunae’s Fulgurant Leap.

Understandably, you want to be utilising the max cost Ultimate as often as possible, but an Energy cost of 180 is excruciatingly steep. Luckily, Argenti’s Talent helps to offset this somewhat. Every enemy that is hit by one of Argenti’s attacks will restore 3 Energy. Again, this seems somewhat underwhelming but in conjunction with the Energy gains from using Argenti’s Skill and the potential to get an extra 15 Energy per turn against 5 enemies, this talent goes a very long way to facilitating the otherwise exorbitant cost of Argenti’s full Ultimate.

Argenti’s Talent will also grant a stack of Apotheosis per enemy hit, increasing his CRIT Rate by 2.5%. Apotheosis can stack up to 10 times, granting a total of 25% CRIT Rate permanently for the rest of the encounter. Due to the AoE nature of Argenti’s damage, this is very easy to stack up to maximum within only a few turns, and having that much extra CRIT Rate for free is highly potent and very much appreciated.

Argenti’s Bonus Ability Traces are mostly nice bonuses. A2 will grant Argenti a stack of Apotheosis every time his turn starts, which is definitely good, but with the rate at which Apotheosis will stack during combat, this particular Bonus Ability goes largely unnoticed. A6 will let Argenti deal 15% more damage to targets whose health is at or below 50% of their maximum, which is largely self-explanatory.

His A4 is particularly interesting. It states ‘When enemy targets enter battle, immediately regenerates 2 Energy for self.’ What this means is that any time a new enemy appears on the field for seemingly any reason, Argenti will get 2 Energy instantly. This understandably includes the start of a new enemy wave, but more impressive is that it also includes any summoned enemies or other reinforcements, such as those called by Boss Gepard or the unending slew of IPC goons called by the IPC Team Leader.

Argenti’s Eidolons are strong but unnecessary, as he’s already going to be decimating pretty much everything the game can come up with to throw at the player. E1 is particularly good value, as it allows Apotheosis to also accumulate CRIT DMG bonuses in addition to its CRIT Rate.

This Knight of Beauty is really quite simple to use, and that’s arguably his best trait; Argenti doesn’t need to worry about things like gaining stacks on a summoned entity, or making sure he has a large amount of Skill Points to be at full power, or making sure the enemy has been properly primed with damage over time. He just… does the thing. It just works™. For some this may actually be a negative thing, since this simplicity also extends to his team setups and may become stale quickly, but over time, I’m certain everyone can learn to appreciate the value of a straightforward unit.

Units that help offset his tremendous Ultimate cost are naturally good pairs, such as Tingyun and Huohuo. Characters that can grant Argenti more actions can also offset the Ultimate’s cost by proxy; Robin or Sparkle can allow Argenti more opportunities to make use of his own Energy restoring Talent, thus increasing his total damage by quite a lot. Because of Argenti’s simplicity, you can really kind of just do whatever you like when it comes to team setups and you’ll probably be okay.

Argenti is honestly pretty great. You may not feel inclined to pull for him if you’ve already got the super heavy hitters like Jingliu, Imbibitor Lunae, or Kafka, but trust, nobody destroys AoE like Argenti destroys AoE.

What the hell is Idrila feeding her Knights, seriously, like damn.

Ratings

Honkai: Star Rail is a game where team building matters most and while our tier list takes the optimal setup into account, a lot of characters can work and do well - even those ranked lower - when you invest into them. Also for story or lower difficulties of Simulated Universe, you don't need to worry about ratings and tiers. You can safely clear that content even with F2P characters as long as you build your team correctly.

Character at 5★ are rated at their Eidolon 0 with their best in slot non-limited Light Cone.

Available ratings:

  • Memory of Chaos (MoC) - how the character performs in the Memory of Chaos. Blast and single target damage are important here while AoE has niche uses against some bosses.
  • Pure Fiction (PF) - how the character performs in the Pure Fiction. AoE is king here, followed by Blast while single target damage is mostly useless.
  • Apocalyptic Shadow (AS) - how the character performs in the Apocalyptic Shadow. Single target and Break is important here.

Best Light Cones

Argenti Relic and Light Cone calculations are based on fighting against 3 targets.

The numbers show the percentage damage output increase/decrease compared to the Light Cone marked with 100%.

102.83%

Increases the wearer's CRIT DMG by 36/42/48/54/60%. When the wearer uses their Ultimate, the wearer's Ultimate DMG increases based on their Max Energy; Ultimate DMG increases by 0.36/0.42/0.48/0.54/0.6% per point of Energy, up to 180 Energy.

Source: Event Warp (limited)

Best Light Cone option for Argenti but not by as massive of a margin as some other characters Signature Cones.

100%

After entering battle, increases the wearer's DMG based on their Max Energy. DMG increases by 0.2/0.25/0.3/0.35/0.4% per point of Energy, up to 160 Energy.

Source: Nameless Glory

Second best Light Cone option for Argenti that is a bit weaker, but it buffs the whole of his kit instead of just the Ultimate.

97.18%

For every enemy on the field, increases the wearer's ATK by 9/10.5/12/13.5/15%, up to 5 stacks. When an enemy is inflicted with Weakness Break, the DMG dealt by the wearer increases by 30/35/40/45/50% for 1 turn.

Source: Stellar Warp

Assumes partial uptime on the break buff. The Cone will perform better against 5 targets (so in PF).

97.13%

Increases the wearer's ATK by 8/9/10/11/12%. After using an attack, for each enemy target hit, additionally increases ATK by 4/5/6/7/8%. This effect can stack 5 times and lasts until the next attack. If there are 3 or more enemy targets hit, this unit's SPD increases by 8/10/12/14/16%, lasting for 1 turn(s).

Source: Herta's Store

A F2P option that provides great ATK% and SPD bonuses as long as you're hitting 3 targets consistently. The Cone will perform better against 5 targets (so in PF).

95.77%

Increases the wearer's ATK by 16/20/24/28/32%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, the wearer's CRIT DMG increases by 24/30/36/42/48% for 3 turn(s).

Source: Stellar Warp

Assumes full uptime on the on-kill CRIT DMG% boost at all times. Failing to keep this buff active will lower this Cone's performance.

CharacterNotes
Tingyun

Tingyun is the most straightforward and well-rounded buffer for Argenti as she provides a lot Energy as well as buffing both his ATK% and DMG%.

Robin
Sparkle

Both Sparkle and Robin help Argenti with their buffs and give him more actions - who you choose for your team depends on Argent's build and mode you play him in.

Huohuo

Huohuo is a Sustain with a teamwide Energy Battery Ultimate, basically infinite cleanses, and is able to utilize Light Cones like Quid Pro Quo for even more energy. This puts her on top in regards to Sustenance, however she does have the drawback of being Skill Point Neutral unless she is E1.

Calculations

Damage Output

The simulation showcases characters damage potential in the 5 cycle turn limit of Memory of Chaos against 1 target and 3 targets. The section below has all the rules listed.

General:

  • Combat is simulated at 5 cycles of in-game time or 850 Action Points,
  • Units are considered to gain 5 additional energy per rotation through combat (taking a hit, killing an enemy or through party members and their Light Cone),
  • Characters and Light Cones are calculated at maximum output starting battle with ramp time removed from stacking buffs (intended to give a constant evaluation of power not dependant on length of fight that can be used to assess maximum power). Additional information about loss of damage due to ramp time can be round attached to related Light Cones, relics and characters,
  • Character rotations are smoothed removing breakpoints relating to Speed and Energy (finishing a fight with 90% energy full or 2 AV off next ability leading to skewed results).

Enemies:

  • Enemies are considered to always have a Break Bar resulting in units all doing 90% of real damage (this doesn't apply to Break characters - they simulate the Break bar correctly),
  • Enemies Speed is set to 140,
  • Enemies are assumed to be at 100% of HP at start of battle and to die at exactly at the end of combat. Which means halfway through the fight they are at 50% HP,
  • Enemies are assumed to have 0 Resistance,
  • Enemies are always considered vulnerable to the attackers element,
  • Enemies are considered level 95 and with DEF included.

Units:

  • All units are level 80,
  • Traces are all unlocked, skills at Level 10 and Basic at Level 6,
  • All units have fully upgraded 5 star relics with 24 desired sub stats out of a possible 54,
  • All units use their Best In Slot 2 and 4 piece sets,
  • All units use Light Cones that are realistically obtainable by all player (excluding Limited LC).
