Introduction
Performance Profile

ST Damage [5/5]

AoE Damage [2/5]

AP Efficiency [4/5]

Utility [4/5]

Heidemarie is a 5-Star Passion Ranger with a combat style that eviscerates enemies with a flurry of blades. She is also the second Limited unit released in CZN, meaning she cannot be obtained from the standard banner.

Heidemarie’s game plan is fairly straightforward and is focused on generating as many copies of her Effulgent Blade to then discard to trigger damage through their discard effect. This is made far easier through her signature mechanic [Linked], which causes all other [Linked] cards to discard themself when a [Linked] card is used manually. So use one [Linked] card, then automatically discard the rest for free! Through the combination of [Linked] cards, which either have discard effects or the [Quietus] tag (which plays them when discarded), Heidemarie can quickly dump all her cards into play without having to spend much AP at all.

The other major part of Heidemarie’s kit is her exclusive resource Effulgent Light, which is accumulated every time her Mythic Unique card Effulgent Compression is discarded. After gaining 3 Effulgent Light, Effulgent Compression transforms into Effulgent Release, a 0-cost attack which deals a large burst of damage based on how many Effulgent Blades you’ve recently played. Discarding a card 3 times to gain one attack card might sound hard, but Effulgent Compression has both the [Linked] and [Retrieve 3] tags, meaning as soon as you draw it, as long as you can trigger 3 [Linked] discards, you can gain all three stacks in a turn without much trouble, thanks to it constantly being added back through [Retrieve].

Between her many triggers on discard effects and cards with the [Quietus] tag, it should be no surprise that Heidemarie works best with other combatants that can discard cards for their own benefit, such as Nia and Cassius. In addition to her discard synergies when building around Heidemarie, it’s also a good idea to be on the lookout for additive sources of damage, as in her most common decks, she focuses on launching a large amount of smaller hits with relatively low initial multipliers, making buffs like Morale incredibly valuable. In terms of resources, most Heidemarie decks don’t require a heap of AP (although some need more than others), and while she does have some card draw options herself, it’s not generic or unconditional and often has caveats like applying [Linked] to all the cards drawn or having exhaust, so bringing card draw to her teams can still be beneficial and even recommended.

As for weaknesses, Heidemarie’s base kit has a distinct lack of AoE damage; however, she does have the option to deal some solid AoE damage with some of the Epiphinies offered on her cards, but not enough to align her as an AoE unit. Her other major weakness is associated with her being a card generation typed character, easily capable of generating 10+ cards a turn, which can lead to hand-size issues in certain team compositions and deck styles, especially when playing her alongside another card generation-based character.

Putting this all together, Heidemarie at a base has a very straightforward playstyle: create as many Effulgent Blades as possible, discard them from your hand using the [Linked] mechanic, and unleash big burst damage after gaining access to Effulgent Release. As a discard unit without mandatory high AP requirements, she functions well alone or with other Damage Dealers, allowing her to play as both a Hyper Carry or Sub Damage Dealer, with the catch being you’ll need to watch out for your hand size when generating large amounts of Efflugent Blades.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Doesn’t clog the deck with generated cards due to them remaining in the discard pile.

  • Offers solid AP efficiency due to [Quietus].

  • Able to self-enable her discard mechanics thanks to the [Linked] tag.

  • Strong single-target damage.

  • Inbuilt card draw and search options, baseline and through epiphanies.

Cons

  • Limited AoE outside of specific epiphanies.

  • Card draw comes with caveats that can limit its usage.

  • Generates a large amount of cards per turn, which unless managed well, can lead to wastage.

Ratings

The ratings below are based on the Season Save Data modes and the Chaos Manifestation mode. Each of the modes values different mechanics, so some characters may shine in one of the, while being underwhelming in the other.

Key Mechanics
  • Linked: When a card has the [Linked] tag, when that card is played manually, it will discard all other cards in your hand that also have the [Linked] tag.

  • Effulgent Blade: Effulgent Blade is a 1-Cost Attack card that has the [Linked] tag. When played directly from the hand, it deals 120% damage to an enemy. When discarded, it deals a 120% Damage Extra-Attack to a random enemy. Additionally, when shuffling your discard pile into your deck, all Effulgent Blades will remain in your discard pile. This is a good thing as they won't clog your deck. Effulgent Blade is Heidemarie’s key card to play around and where the majority of her damage comes from, with the majority of her strategies built around generating as many of them as possible and buffing them to the max.

  • Effulgent Light: Heidemarie gains a stack of Effulgent Light whenever her Mythic card “Effulgent Compression” is moved to the graveyard. When Heidemarie gains 3 stacks of Effulgent Light, it transforms Effulgent Compression into “Effulgent Release” and removes all stacks of Effulgent Light.

  • Quietus : [Quietus] is a keyword that causes the tagged card to activate when discarded. When doing so, that card is no longer able to be moved out of the Used Card pile for the rest of the turn. Cards discarded by [Quietus] always get their full effect. [Quietus] cards with both an on-play effect and a discard effect will activate both effects when discarded.

    • Note : [Quietus] does NOT activate if discarded during the end of the turn; [Quietus] will only activate when a card has been discarded via a card effect.

  • Attunement: Attunement is an additional effect that activates whenever the card is moved from the draw pile to the hand. The effect that triggers is the wording that immediately follows “Attunement:” on the card, and does not additionally activate when the card is played.

Potential

CRIT RATE% = CRIT DMG% >= Unique Card DMG% > Common Card DMG% = Basic Card DMG%

  • 3-1: Heidemaries 3-1 potential adds an additional effect to her Basic attack card, granting an additional +30% damage to Effulgent Blade for 1 turn. This is mostly some extra power in Chaos-based game modes and usually isn’t enough to allow the card to see play in Save Data-based modes. Cheap enough to unlock, there is no reason not to do so.

  • 5-1: Her 5-1 Potential node increases the damage dealt by her Basic Attack Card “Sword Flash” by an additional +5%, and if her attack is greater than 500, it adds an additional +5%. Again, mostly providing utility in Chaos-style content, as basics are usually removed in Save-based modes. Not a must-have potential for Heidemary and should only be unlocked for chaos power or if you want the Divine Epiphany chance behind it.

  • 7: Heidemarie’s potential 7 increases her Passion Attribute damage by +5%. Additionally, for each 20 Attack above 600, it adds an additional +2% to this value up to an additional 10% for a total of +15% Passion damage at 700 Attack. This is a great potential node to invest in and is extremely easy to reach, requiring only 700 Attack, which should be very obtainable even with sub-par Memory Fragments. A must-have unlock to get as soon as possible.

Dupes Review
E0

Base

Base performance of the character.

E1
101.83%

Ego 1

Heidemarie’s Ego 1 increases the base damage values on her Mythic Card “Effulgent Release” by an additional +200% (additive) and increases the damage for each exhausted “Effulgent Blade” to +120%. Not an incredibly substantial first Ego to be unlocked, but it slightly boosts her potential damage output.

E2
115.01%

Ego 2

Her Ego 2 moves Heidemarie’s Mythic card “Effulgent Compression” to her hand at the start of the battle, which is a nice consistency gain in the Chaos-based modes and the first turn of Save, but not the real benefit. The real power of this Ego is that at the start of each turn, Heidemarie gains 5 stacks of “Crimson Blade”. Crimson Blade activates whenever a link card is activated manually or discarded. After it is, Heidemarie will deal a 120% Damage Extra-Attack to the enemy that has the highest HP and then remove 1 stack of Crimson Blade. Heidemarie can have up to 8 Stacks of Crimson Blade at once. The Crimson Blade component of this Ego adds another 5 potential extra attacks per turn to Heidemarie, which is a sizable damage boost, especially in Chaos, where high hit counts each turn are harder to guarantee. If you’re looking to invest heavily in Heidemarie, this is the major Ego breakpoint.

E3
116.26%

Ego 3

Her third Ego increases the base damage on her Ego skill by an additional +200%, the scaling damage per card discarded to +100% and finally, allowing her to scale the damage even further by increasing the damage threshold cap to 30 cards discarded in a battle instead of 20. All up because Heidemarie's Ego Skill only makes up a small portion of her damage, this Ego doesn’t end up being that large of a boost.

E4
124.93%

Ego 4

Her fourth Ego grants Heidemarie a stack of “Effulgent Chain” whenever one of Heidemarie’s Linked cards is activated manually or discarded. Effulgent Chain can stack up to 10 times permanently and grant her an additional +5% (additive) damage per stack. A very solid buff equivalent to roughly 2.5 morale stacks, which is incredibly easy to get up and running - especially considering these stacks are permanent.

E5
125.77%

Ego 5

This Ego node increases the base and maximum level of their [Basic Card Upgrade], [Unique Card Upgrade] and [Common Card Upgrade] potentials by 3. Very standard, further amplifies her damage output.

E6
136.03%

Ego 6

Her final Ego node grants her “Effulgent Blade” elemental advantage to every enemy, which effectively functions as a 1.25x damage multiplier for the card if Heidemarie didn’t already have advantage (Passion weak enemy). In addition, every time “Crimson Blade” is activated, it increases the damage dealt by Crimson Blade by an additional +40%, up to a maximum of +480% after 12 activations. Our calculations don’t include the boost from enemy weakness, as that part of this Ego is conditional, but does include the damage boost from Crimson Blade; therefore, you can treat the calculation number as the minimum potential gain you can expect. That means this is a very potent Ego to pick up for most Heidemarie decks.

Elysium of Blades

Ego Skill

400% Damage.
+80% Damage Amount for each card Discarded this battle (max 20 cards).
Elysium of Blades

Elysium of Blades is Heidemarie's Ego Skill - It costs 5 Ego Points to use, deals 400% Damage to a single enemy, increasing by an additional +80% (additive) Damage for each card discarded (up to 20 cards discarded), for a total of 2000% damage once you’ve discarded 20 cards. This does require some ramp-up to fully maximize its damage output, but it offers a potent one-time nuke at some point in the fight. Usually not a major contributor to Heidemarie's total damage, but nice to max out a single turn's damage total.

Sword Flash

Attack
Attack

Sword Flash

Sword Flash is Heidemarie’s Basic attack card, dealing 100% damage to an enemy at the cost of 1-AP. Very standard, not much utility outside of Chaos style content, as Heidemarie is generally going to remove this card in Save Data content. However, after Heidemarie’s 3-1 Potential is unlocked, it provides an additional +30% damage to Effulgent Blade for 1 turn, which grants it some additional utility but usually still not enough to see play in Save Data game modes.

It also features the [Linked] tag and has an Attunement effect that creates 1 “Effulgent Blade” in Heidemarie's hand. This is Heidemarie’s bread and butter for Effulgent Blade generation and is one of the best cards to discard her Effulgent Blades thanks to the [Linked] tag forming an easy 1-card combo of drawing Sword Rain, triggering its Attunement and then playing it to immediately discard and trigger the Effulgent Blade’s generated as well as any other [Linked] cards.

Hero to All

Hero to All is a 1-Cost Skill card that has the [Quietus] tag. When played or discarded (thanks to [Quietus]), it draws 3 cards from the Deck and applies the [Linked] tag to all cards drawn. Drawing 3 cards is extremely powerful; however, due to the linked mechanic, as soon as you play any one of them, the other 2 will be discarded to no effect unless they have a discard effect or the [Quietus]/[Attunement] tags. Because of this, this card is only situationally a draw 3. Instead, in most cases, it’s a draw 3 choose one to play and discard the other 2. Still strong, just not universally useful.

Thread of Light is a 1-Cost Attack card that also has the [Linked] tag, which, when activated, deals 120% damage to an enemy plus +120% (additive) for each [Linked] card in hand when played. This card works as a stronger alternative [Linked] combo starter to Sword Rain for Effulgent Blades and works best by generating a large amount of blades, so you have ample [Linked] cards in hand, allowing you to play it as a huge nuke, which then triggers all the blades after. While fine in its base version, this card has quite a few drastically different epiphanies that can be preferred more.

Effulgent Expansion

Effulgent Expansion is a 2-Cost Skill Card that has the [Quietus] tag. When activated, it creates 2 Effulgent Blades in Heidemarie's hand and increases the damage dealt by Effulgent Blade when it’s both activated and discarded by an additional +50% for 1 turn. This card doubles as both Blade generation and buffing, making it an incredible card for both Save and Chaos-based game modes. The downside of it though, is that without a deterministic discard outlet, it’s challenging to play due to its high cost and the fact that it doesn’t have [Linked]. As long as you can effectively trigger [Quietus] on your decks, this is one of Heidemarie's most powerful cards and after Epiphanies, only becomes even stronger.

Effulgent Compression is an unusable Mythic Skill card that has the [Unique / Linked / Retrieve 3] tags. When this card is moved to the graveyard, Heidemarie gains 1 stack of Effulgent Light. When Heidemarie gains 3 stacks of Effulgent Light, it transforms Effulgent Compression into “Effulgent Release” and removes all stacks of Effulgent Light. Thanks to the [Retrieve 3] on this card, it allows you to discard it with the [Linked] mechanic and immediately move it back into your hand to discard again, to continually gain stacks each turn, making it realistic to fully transform this card each turn in endgame decks if you draw it early enough. Note: When this card is discarded at the end of the turn, it will grant a stack of Effulgent Light..

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★★] - Target Neutral: You may take any neutral epiphany that appeals as the main reason to take the neutral version of this card is to drop the [Quietus] tag allowing you to loop (for as much draw and discard you have) this card to make a mass amount of effulgent blades off of only one copy of it (similar to Forbidden: Hunger on Nia). While a strong application it requires other cards and synergies to function.
  • Sword Rain I
[★★★★★] - Card gains [Quietus] and now makes 2 effulgent blades. This card is close to the best in damage potential, while also being effectively 0-cost because of the [Quietus] tag. The main downside is that it requires 3 handspace when drawn (and likely at all times) to get its full value as you won't have space for the creations otherwise.
  • Sword Rain II
[★★★] - Now does 1 hit for every effulgent blade in hand giving it worthwhile damage potentials in carry set-ups, but at a great cost (pun intended) because it now costs 2 and doesn't have [Quietus]. All up it requires significant amounts of set-up and hand size to work on top of being more expensive and generating less blades than a choice like Sword Rain I.
  • Sword Rain III
[★★★★★] - Now launches 5 extra attacks, if you have at least 5 effulgent blades in discard/graveyard. This is another option that can be higher damage than Sword Rain I thanks to it offering both a higher hit count and all its attacks being Extra Attacks which have superior scaling. The cost of running this epiphany though is that it requires set-up to work and doesn’t have any inbuilt discard synergy from either quietus or link meaning it often requires a very different deck and team strategy to work effectively. However, it has a very high synergy and potential with Hugo because of its ability to activate his extra attacks off it, making it a premiere option for Hugo teams and a few other supportive/sub-DPS setups.
  • Sword Rain IV
[★★★★] - Now makes 2 effulgent blades manually with [Retrieve]. This is a damage option that is similar or better than Sword Rain I in terms of raw output, and easier to use with handspace, but will cost you 1AP instead of Sword Rain I's [Quietus] free-play. It also lacks any damage effect itself and instead relies on double triggers of Effulgent Blade to compete.
  • Sword Rain V
[] - It has every tag under the sun now, including [Exhaust], and does a bunch of damage based on the number of blades in graveyard. This card is worse in all situations not AOE than Effulgent Light (her signature card) while also being [Exhaust] and getting rid of your Effulgent Light, which makes it so you would rather just play around Effulgent Light.

Divine Epiphanies:

Which Divine Epiphany to go for will depend on what your team needs and which Epiphany you chose, but here are the main ones to look out for if you have spare Save Data: Vulnerable 2 (Situational) Weakness Attack (For non-passion enemies) Treated as common card, draw 1 common card Draw 1 (Sword Rain IV) Cost-Reduction (Sword Rain III, IV)

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: 1 AP Neutral Epiphanies can be used with this card, and definitely improve its AP/Draw efficiency with effects similar to divines with no save data point cost.
  • Hero to All I
[★★★★★] - An all-around solid card with basically no downsides. As long as you can discard it for the [Quietus] proc, it's a free to play search card that also can act as a discard engine when used for her own cards or allies who want that (like Diana).
  • Hero to All II
[★★] - Changes to apply [Link] to 1-cost cards. This can be good for supporting Renoa or other 1-cost attack discarders, but she will likely be usurped by other units for supporting this specific role.
  • Hero to All III
[★★★] - Changes to apply [Link] to [Quietus] cards. This can be quite strong and is great for supporting Diana, specifically as a combo enabler. However, for herself, the value is much lower since her [Quietus] cards generally also have [Link] innately. Despite being situational the upside to this epiphany is that it has no downside having [Haste], costing 0 and also replacing itself with its card draw.
  • Hero to All IV
[★★★★★] - Now has [Exhaust 2] and can target-move a card and apply [Link] to it permanently. This card effectively becomes a card that searches any card from the deck or alternatively the discard pile too. The fact it applies [Linked] permanently also means it can act as a long-term combo enabler for some decks that require [Linked] on very specific cards. The downside of this epiphany is [Exhaust 2] meaning after the start of fights it loses value outside of the lingering [Linked] you’ve applied, this makes it good as a set-up tool or consistency piece for shorter fights.
  • Hero to All V
[★★★] - Draws 2 Attack Cards of Heidemaries and applies [Link] to all attacks in hand. This epiphany is an alternative consistency card to Hero to All I but instead of generic draws targets Heidemaries cards. The fact it applies [Linked] to all attack cards in hand can also make it a combo piece for certain decks however this effect can also limit its usage in decks without strong discard synergy making it more niche outside of discard based strategies. It also can be used in certain decks that want to target draw/cycle Heidemarie attack cards, like ones that utilize ‘Attunement:’ or other reusable effects (like Thread of Light V) being able to be replayed.

Divine Epiphanies:

The card is perfectly playable without divines, so it is recommended to use your save data points elsewhere.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: Draw 1 Neutral Epiphanies can be used with this card, and definitely improve its AP/Draw efficiency with effects similar to divines with no save data point cost.
  • Thread of Light I
[★★] - This epiphany is just the base card with higher multipliers. Stand alone this card hits incredibly hard assuming you have even a basic set-up of [Linked] cards in your hand, however in most optimized decks built to maximize Effulgent Blade activations its value cannot compete with buffing cards such as Thread of Light III.
  • Thread of Light II
[★★★] - Base ratio on this now triples if at least 3 [Linked] cards are in hand. This is a premiere option for nuke Heidemarie builds, but these builds require a very specific set-up that most Heidemarie teams aren’t built for (multiplicative buffs, AP, draw, etc.).
  • Thread of Light III
[★★★★★] - Now gives a passive buff if in hand OR graveyard. This is a very easy passive buff to get, and it also does a free attack on-top of it thanks to the card gaining [Quietus]. Always a good option for any Effulgent Blade or high hit count [Linked] focused deck.
  • Thread of Light IV
[] - Activates cards with [Linked] in hand. This card still moves them to used pile and effectively just plays the [Linked] cards in hand for free. For this card to be efficient and worth using you need a hand stacked with [Linked] cards, else its high cost of 3 is difficult to justify, additionally the fact it has [Exhaust] means this can
  • Thread of Light V
[★★★] - Becomes a 2-cost [Unique] card that either does a decent 2x multihit (manual) or an AOE extra attack (discarded). Since this card can be drawn multiple times a turn, you can potentially redraw and re-discard it for a lot of AOE hits. However, it requires specific set-ups to maximize its value and even then you’ll need to trigger it multiple times per turn in this way for it to beat out other options consistently.

Divine Epiphanies:

Divine Epiphanies provide negligible value on this card; therefore, an Epiphany that synergizes with your build should be prioritized over divines.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: Draw 1 Neutral Epiphanies can be used with this card, and definitely improve its AP/Draw efficiency with effects similar to divines with no save data point cost.
  • Effulgent Expansion I
[★★★] - This Epiphany boosts the 1 turn buff from the base version and grants it [Linked] making it much easier to trigger without paying its steep 2 AP cost. Not as consistent an option as V due to its 1 turn duration, it also requires you to continually play the card to acquire its Effulgent Blades. Duplicating this only increases turn-duration.
  • Effulgent Expansion II
[★★] - Now makes 2 effulgent blades and gives a strong additive buff for only the next 2 effulgent blade hits (a total card damage boost of 400%). The upside of this epiphany is that its buff can be gained and consumed multiple times in a turn whereas Effulgent I and V buffs can only be effectively gained once per turn, however the fact its buff only lasts for 2 Effulgent Blades instead of all blades for the turn holds it back.
  • Effulgent Expansion III
[★★] - Creates an effulgent blade for each [Link] card in hand. Can create up to 5 blades (if half of hand is [Link] cards and has decently high potential, but is very hard to execute in practice. In the event you generate the full 5 blades with 5 [Linked] cards in hand the next card you play will discard your whole hand likely leaving you with no cards. To get around this you could generate only 3 or 4 but this is hard to consistently achieve and manage for a questionable damage increase at best.
  • Effulgent Expansion IV
[★★★] - Card now creates 6 Effulgent Blades in discard. This option is the go-to if using Sword Rain III or a nuke (Sword Rain V or Effulgent Light) set-up, but is otherwise not particularly good or recommended.
  • Effulgent Expansion V
[★★★★★] - Creates 2 effulgent blades at the start-of-turn and causes the additive passive card damage buff to all Effulgent Blades to linger permanently. Works in basically any build, provided you don't have a lot of retains or start-of-turn effects which could result in the start of turn swords causing hand size issues. Just a passive +2 blades every turn and passive permanent buff throughout the combat making it a no downside choice.

Memory Fragments

The Memory Fragments & Equipment suggestions below are based on calculations we did. If you want to check the damage formula and how scaling the damage works in CZN, check this guide.

Recommended Loadout
100%

[4-PC]: When a Passion or Void Attribute Attack Card of this unit is Discarded, +15% Critical Chance for 1 turn (max 15%, max 2 stacks)

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

The combination of 4P Prelude and 2P Executioner's is Heidemarie's best gear set choice in most cases. However how much better it is than other options depends on what Partner you're using on her and what teammates you run alongside her. If you're running Heidemarie's signature partner Sylvia who grants a lot of passive Crit DMG (which these calcs are using) the Crit Rate from this set performs better, without Sylvia its performance is closer to 2/2/2.

96.27%

[2-PC]: +12% Attack.

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

Flex

2/2/2 is as always for all DPS a solid option. However for Heidemarie it's almost never her best choice due to her having a dedicated set designed for her (4P Prelude to a Hero) as well as her ability to run 4P Conqueror's Aspect fairly efficiently. Because of this 2/2/2 is usually only recommended if you don't have a good 4P Prelude set yet and or 4P conqueror's isn't efficient for your team.

In the Flex slots, for more damage use 2P Cursed Corpse (if you can keep Agony on targets at all times). Alternatively for stronger Chaos starts try 2P Seth's Scarab. If neither of those options work or appeal to you, you can also use any 2 strong sub/main stat pieces instead of a final 2P set bonus as well.

Specialist Loadout

[4-PC]: +35% Critical Damage of 1-cost cards.

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

4P Conqueror's Aspect has the potential to beat out 2/2/2 in damage and compete with 4P Prelude in the right teams. In most builds a large amount of Heidemarie's damage comes from 1 cost cards like Sword Rain and Effulgent Blade (discard effect counts) both of which gain the 35% crit dmg bonus. What holds 4P Conqueror's back is when Heidemarie gains major sources of damage which aren't 1 cost such as Nia's Soul Rip or her E2 activations. When these additional sources of damage are factored in it usually performs on par with 2/2/2 but worse than 4P Prelude.

Main and sub-stats

In a lot of cases, flat sub-stats are better than percentage ones when it comes to HP, ATK and DEF. The reason behind this is that in CZN the characters stats are pretty low and you get more value from flat bonus rather than percentage one based on calcs.

Ideal
CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG = ATK%
Desire
ATK% > Passion DMG%
Imagination
ATK%
Substats:

Extra DMG% > CRIT Rate% = CRIT DMG% > ATK% >= ATK

Maxing out Heidemarie's Potential 7 is the main stat breakpoint to watch out for. Fortunately it's incredibly easy to do so and all you need is 700 ATK which almost all Heidemarie builds can accomplish.

Partners

Our best Partner recommendation try to balance both the raw damage boost they provide based on our calculations with the additional utility provided by the skill - combined with how it interacts with the characters's kit. We have rated each Partner based on how much additional damage and the utility they provide. Read the comments under each Partner to better understand our reasoning.

No calculations in Chaos Zero Nightmare are completely accurate for all scenarios, including the ones below. What team, decks, epiphanies, gear, equipment, and enemies you’re facing all impact them. Because of this, take the results as guidelines and combine them with the explanations to make your decisions. Calculations use endgame save data set-ups, including 5 turns of combat using the whole deck with all Ego skills unless otherwise stated.

Of all Heidemarie's Partner options, E0 Sylvia is definitely her best choice and one of the go-to mid-investment upgrades you can pick up to meaningfully boost her damage. What makes Sylvia so strong in comparison to other Partners is the passive Crit DMG she provides, a stat which is very hard to pick up elsewhere, either from team, card or stage buffs, making it incredibly potent in ultra endgame where stats like card damage are heavily saturated.

E4 Solia is the next best mid-spender option who definitely falls meaningfully behind Sylvia and also can be outperformed by a few close contenders below due to extra utility they have which Solia does not. E0 Marin is close to Solia in terms of damage performance, but carries the benefit of her Ego skill, offering a Skill Card Draw, which in Chaos and even some Save Data modes/decks can be useful. In many cases, Marin can also be easier to acquire than E4 Solia, so if you already have Marin, she's fine, and often better than Solia to use.

E0 Solia is significantly worse than E4 Solia and only slightly ahead of the completely F2P E4 Nakia. If you already have her raised, she's ok to slot in instead of Nakia, but otherwise it's better to aim for one of the options above long term.

Heidemarie is usually on the team to deal damage herself, either as the main damage or a strong Sub Damage Dealer. Because of this, E4 Rosaria isn't as attractive as some other support characters like Veronica. With that said, how good Rosaria is depends entirely on what type of deck you're playing with Heidemarie. If you're leaning into more Skill Cards, Rosaria's performance will improve compared to the number represented, but if you're focused on a full damage deck, she usually isn't as good as running a pure damage partner. However, she is a noticeable improvement over Nakia, thanks to her better damage and utility and is even recommended over E0 Solia for the same reasons.

Notably worse than E4 Rosaria and even falls behind E4 Nakia in damage, but is still close enough that if Nakia and E0 Rosaria are all you have, you can still consider Rosaria instead for her Ego Skill, which adds an upgrade or draws a card.

Equipment

In the Zero System, it’s incredibly easy to access all items acquirable via the shop thanks to the five free refreshes you get each shop node - that's why the recommendations below are limited to them only. ATTENTION! Area-specific items can sometimes be more powerful than shop items, but are far less consistent to get or require running a specific world or giving up certain event options. Use the shop list as a starting point for building up your deck saves.

The equipment recommendations are based on items obtainable in Season 2’s Chaos - Burning Life. If you’re running content outside of Season 2, it’s possible some options may not be available for acquisition, or that other options not obtainable in Burning Life may be better.

We're currently working on updating all builds for Season 3.

Comments - Weapons
  • Equipment
    Intellect of Discord
     - Offers a huge 18% Combat Attack passively, which, for Heidemarie, makes this weapon the de facto best-in-slot weapon if you're able to acquire it alongside the correct save and don't have any better Unique equipment options.
  • Equipment
    Tentacles of Chaos
     - Provides 8% Combat Attack to all operators in the team on top of having the high base attack that comes with Unique weapons. These two factors alone make it a competitive choice if you can't get Intellect of Discord, but if you're planning to play Heidemarie alongside another damage dealer like Diana, it can perform close to on par with Intellect of Discord thanks to it buffing the whole team instead of just Heidemarie herself.
  • Equipment
    Dagger That Tricked the Shadow
     - 12% Crit DMG is always a competitive option if you can find it in your runs and nothing better turns up or is required for your build.
  • Equipment
    Second Method
     - A generically strong and accessible legendary equipment for all combatants that deal the majority of their damage via Extra Attacks, thanks to its +35% (Additive) Extra Attack bonus. Heidemarie's discard damage from her Effulgent Blades is all Extra Attack damage, making this a solid but usually never best-in-slot option if you find nothing else.
  • Equipment
    Obsidian Sword
     - Very easy to find and grants 12% (Multiplicative) damage to everything. It's never the best, but if you have nothing else, you should definitely grab it.
Comments - Armor
  • Equipment
    Fairy King's Crown
     - The Crit Rate this armour provides is almost always in demand and a competitive option, making it a piece worth seeking out unless you're able to obtain better, more specialized options.
Comments - Trinkets
  • Equipment
    Dimensional Cube
     - As a Discard specialist, Heidemarie and her team will have no issue maxing out this equipment's effect each turn, making it the best generic option for boosting her damage.
  • Equipment
    Amorphous Cube
     - If you can't get your hands on a Dimensional cube, Amophous cube can be ran instead and due to how common it is, you're almost always guaranteed to get it every run.

Recommended Build
Build Comments
  • Commence the Heide-Bomber (Hugo or Selena Driver) - This build utilizes Sword Rain III’s ability to activate Hugo’s Commence the Hunt 5x at full value with every Sword Rain III use, presuming you have at least 5 blades in discard (hence Expansion IV). Build is extremely straightforward, generally it uses Hero to All IV to increase odds of tutoring Cassius’ pop-eyed early + triple-1 cassius as Heide can proc this quest extremely efficiently as 3rd-slot buffer, with both Heide and Cassius playing skills and attacks to drive Hugo to do massive amounts of damage. This build works essentially the same with Selena without needing to play around Hunt Stacks (instead requiring you to play your coord skills before Sword Rain III). This build works essentially the same with Selena without needing to play around Hunt Stacks (instead requiring you to play your coord skills before Sword Rain III).
  • Sword of Rain Spam - One of the simplest builds to play on Heidemarie is maxing out copies of Sword Rain I. Doing this alongside Effulgent Expansion V and Thread of Light III will allow you to launch a stream of Effulgent Blades every turn. You’ll gain 8 from your 4 copies of Sword Rain and 2 passively at the start of the turn from Effulgent Expansion V for a total of 10, assuming you can draw through your deck. This is complemented nicely by the passive buffs from Effulgent Expansion V and Thread of Light III. Doesn’t share the same extreme synergy with Selena and Hugo though as her Sword Rain III build.
  • OppenHeider (Nuke Build) - Because she’s one of the few characters that scales base ratio and not additively, she can scale into oblivion with this build (8-digit numbers) quite easily. This build utilizes Effulgent Expansion IV and Effulgent Light (signature card) to quickly scale the Effulgent Light very high for a big nuke pay-off. You use multiplicative buffs from Orlea and Tiphera to scale it faster and harder. Sword Rain and Thread of Light epiphanies will brick the Orlea Tiphera buff set-up, so they are recommended removals.
Removal
  • Sword Flash

    Sword Barrier
     - All of Heidemarie’s basics will usually be removed in her most optimized builds, with her shield being the first removal priority.
Conditional Removal
  • Sword Rain

    Thread of Light
     - Basically only in Oppen-Heider (Nuke Build) where you don’t want them consuming buffs pre-nuke.
  • Effulgent Compression
     - This can be removed in some builds like ‘Commence the Heide’, as it can be a difficult card to play around with it exhausting cards you need at the wrong time or requiring extra draw and handspace.
Copying
  • Sword Rain
     - The go-to dupe for carry Heide and most of her builds, as it has the highest damage potential for duping in most set-ups, thanks to its high effective hit on many of its Epiphany choices, while also being incredibly easy and flexible to play around.
  • Effulgent Expansion
     - A potential dupe alternative to Sword Rain; however, its buff which grants an additive bonus to Effulgent Blades, does not stack in value and only stacks in turn duration, meaning it will usually fall behind Sword Rain builds in total damage output.
  • Hero to All
     - This is a far more specific copy option that comes into play when aiming to play Heidemarie in more of a supportive fashion by relying on the draw or move functionality this card provides.
Best Synergies
  • Nia’s Soul Rip III is able to turn every discard by Heidemarie into an additional Extra Attack, increasing her damage a large amount
  • Nia’s form of healing, Decibel and Elasticity, is utilized best by Extra Attackers, which Heidemarie satisfies well.
  • Nia can trigger needed discards for Heidemarie, as many Heidemarie decks benefit from discard chains being started without manually playing a [Linked] card. Doing this can preserve AP.
  • Nia provides a large amount of card cycling while achieving all of the above, helping to ensure Heidemarie and the rest of her team fully execute their deck's full game plan each turn.
  • Heidemarie can apply [Link] to many of Diana’s cards, specifically her [Quietus] cards, which allow her to chain react-discard a lot of Diana’s cards for big damage/effect combos, potentially saving a lot of RNG or AP in the process.
  • Heidemarie and Diana share an element, which allows them to also share many enemies that they are best against, as neither can easily get Passion Weakness themselves (besides Heide E6) and will prefer enemies who are already Passion weak.
  • Both being discard-focused units allows team build to completely center on the discard archetype, allowing for additional synergies and overlap to be efficiently built e.g. both units can benefit from Nia’s Soul Rip III extra attack effect.
  • One thing to be aware of when playing Diana with Heidemarie is that both are heavy card generators, so unless hand space is managed effectively, you may lose out on some of your card generation and therefore damage.
  • He has some of the highest additive buffing in the game, with his neutral Morale access on many of his cards, combined with his Pot-7’s Quests giving a lot of Morale. As a multi-hit attacker, Heidemarie scales very well with these buffs.
  • In addition to great buffing, Cassius has some discard synergy as well (although less than Nia) and has solid card draw as well, allowing Heidemarie better access to her deck and combos.
  • Heidemarie’s Sword Rain III can activate commence the hunt at max-value for all 5-hits of the sword rain card activations, allowing her to drive hugo extremely efficiently.
  • Heidemarie is able to play a lot of skills between Sword Rain III uses, with Sword Rain III itself being a skill, which guarantees relatively high value off Hugo.
  • Both are extra attackers which means they both benefit greatly from coordinated attack effects and epiphanies, since it increases the odds of it being especially valuable.
  • Much like Hugo, she can provide extra attacks on every hit of Sword Rain III. She has the advantage of being able to do 3-hits for every Sword Rain III hit rather than just 2-hits that Hugo can do (at lower base-values and does not work with additional ally hits as Hugo can).
  • She can also provide passion weakness imprint (elemental advantage) to Heidemarie, which is exceptionally valuable against not innately weak Passion enemies, as Heidemarie is one of the few characters who can benefit from passion weakness imprint on extra attacks.
  • Both are extra attackers, which means they both benefit greatly from coordinated attack effects and epiphanies, since it increases the odds of it being especially valuable.

Heidemarie is enough in Chaos that she can easily serve as a Solo Carry in most encounters, leaving the remaining two team slots open to fill as you see fit. Popular choices for these slots are Nia or Cassius for healing, Discard synergy, and Draw Power. Diana is also a strong choice alongside Heidemarie as a secondary Damage Dealer who shares the same discard synergy, allowing for interplay between their decks. Outside of that, most generic shielders, supports, and healers also work within Heidemarie's teams in Chaos.
