Epiphany cards are special evolutions for the cards you can obtain while playing the roguelike mode. Only some cards in the character's deck can get Epiphany effects. Since there's quite a lot of them, we don't display them by default - press the button below to show them. There are also Divine variants of Epiphany cards, but we're still working on gathering them.

ST Damage [5/5]
AoE Damage [2/5]
AP Efficiency [4/5]
Utility [4/5]
Heidemarie is a 5-Star Passion Ranger with a combat style that eviscerates enemies with a flurry of blades. She is also the second Limited unit released in CZN, meaning she cannot be obtained from the standard banner.
Heidemarie’s game plan is fairly straightforward and is focused on generating as many copies of her Effulgent Blade to then discard to trigger damage through their discard effect. This is made far easier through her signature mechanic [Linked], which causes all other [Linked] cards to discard themself when a [Linked] card is used manually. So use one [Linked] card, then automatically discard the rest for free! Through the combination of [Linked] cards, which either have discard effects or the [Quietus] tag (which plays them when discarded), Heidemarie can quickly dump all her cards into play without having to spend much AP at all.
The other major part of Heidemarie’s kit is her exclusive resource Effulgent Light, which is accumulated every time her Mythic Unique card Effulgent Compression is discarded. After gaining 3 Effulgent Light, Effulgent Compression transforms into Effulgent Release, a 0-cost attack which deals a large burst of damage based on how many Effulgent Blades you’ve recently played. Discarding a card 3 times to gain one attack card might sound hard, but Effulgent Compression has both the [Linked] and [Retrieve 3] tags, meaning as soon as you draw it, as long as you can trigger 3 [Linked] discards, you can gain all three stacks in a turn without much trouble, thanks to it constantly being added back through [Retrieve].
Between her many triggers on discard effects and cards with the [Quietus] tag, it should be no surprise that Heidemarie works best with other combatants that can discard cards for their own benefit, such as Nia and Cassius. In addition to her discard synergies when building around Heidemarie, it’s also a good idea to be on the lookout for additive sources of damage, as in her most common decks, she focuses on launching a large amount of smaller hits with relatively low initial multipliers, making buffs like Morale incredibly valuable. In terms of resources, most Heidemarie decks don’t require a heap of AP (although some need more than others), and while she does have some card draw options herself, it’s not generic or unconditional and often has caveats like applying [Linked] to all the cards drawn or having exhaust, so bringing card draw to her teams can still be beneficial and even recommended.
As for weaknesses, Heidemarie’s base kit has a distinct lack of AoE damage; however, she does have the option to deal some solid AoE damage with some of the Epiphinies offered on her cards, but not enough to align her as an AoE unit. Her other major weakness is associated with her being a card generation typed character, easily capable of generating 10+ cards a turn, which can lead to hand-size issues in certain team compositions and deck styles, especially when playing her alongside another card generation-based character.
Putting this all together, Heidemarie at a base has a very straightforward playstyle: create as many Effulgent Blades as possible, discard them from your hand using the [Linked] mechanic, and unleash big burst damage after gaining access to Effulgent Release. As a discard unit without mandatory high AP requirements, she functions well alone or with other Damage Dealers, allowing her to play as both a Hyper Carry or Sub Damage Dealer, with the catch being you’ll need to watch out for your hand size when generating large amounts of Efflugent Blades.
Doesn’t clog the deck with generated cards due to them remaining in the discard pile.
Offers solid AP efficiency due to [Quietus].
Able to self-enable her discard mechanics thanks to the [Linked] tag.
Strong single-target damage.
Inbuilt card draw and search options, baseline and through epiphanies.
Limited AoE outside of specific epiphanies.
Card draw comes with caveats that can limit its usage.
Generates a large amount of cards per turn, which unless managed well, can lead to wastage.
The ratings below are based on the Season Save Data modes and the Chaos Manifestation mode. Each of the modes values different mechanics, so some characters may shine in one of the, while being underwhelming in the other.
Chaos Mode
Season Save Data
Great Rift
Linked: When a card has the [Linked] tag, when that card is played manually, it will discard all other cards in your hand that also have the [Linked] tag.
Effulgent Blade: Effulgent Blade is a 1-Cost Attack card that has the [Linked] tag. When played directly from the hand, it deals 120% damage to an enemy. When discarded, it deals a 120% Damage Extra-Attack to a random enemy. Additionally, when shuffling your discard pile into your deck, all Effulgent Blades will remain in your discard pile. This is a good thing as they won't clog your deck. Effulgent Blade is Heidemarie’s key card to play around and where the majority of her damage comes from, with the majority of her strategies built around generating as many of them as possible and buffing them to the max.
Effulgent Light: Heidemarie gains a stack of Effulgent Light whenever her Mythic card “Effulgent Compression” is moved to the graveyard. When Heidemarie gains 3 stacks of Effulgent Light, it transforms Effulgent Compression into “Effulgent Release” and removes all stacks of Effulgent Light.
Quietus : [Quietus] is a keyword that causes the tagged card to activate when discarded. When doing so, that card is no longer able to be moved out of the Used Card pile for the rest of the turn. Cards discarded by [Quietus] always get their full effect. [Quietus] cards with both an on-play effect and a discard effect will activate both effects when discarded.
Note : [Quietus] does NOT activate if discarded during the end of the turn; [Quietus] will only activate when a card has been discarded via a card effect.
Attunement: Attunement is an additional effect that activates whenever the card is moved from the draw pile to the hand. The effect that triggers is the wording that immediately follows “Attunement:” on the card, and does not additionally activate when the card is played.
CRIT RATE% = CRIT DMG% >= Unique Card DMG% > Common Card DMG% = Basic Card DMG%
3-1: Heidemaries 3-1 potential adds an additional effect to her Basic attack card, granting an additional +30% damage to Effulgent Blade for 1 turn. This is mostly some extra power in Chaos-based game modes and usually isn’t enough to allow the card to see play in Save Data-based modes. Cheap enough to unlock, there is no reason not to do so.
5-1: Her 5-1 Potential node increases the damage dealt by her Basic Attack Card “Sword Flash” by an additional +5%, and if her attack is greater than 500, it adds an additional +5%. Again, mostly providing utility in Chaos-style content, as basics are usually removed in Save-based modes. Not a must-have potential for Heidemary and should only be unlocked for chaos power or if you want the Divine Epiphany chance behind it.
7: Heidemarie’s potential 7 increases her Passion Attribute damage by +5%. Additionally, for each 20 Attack above 600, it adds an additional +2% to this value up to an additional 10% for a total of +15% Passion damage at 700 Attack. This is a great potential node to invest in and is extremely easy to reach, requiring only 700 Attack, which should be very obtainable even with sub-par Memory Fragments. A must-have unlock to get as soon as possible.
Base
Ego 1
Heidemarie’s Ego 1 increases the base damage values on her Mythic Card “Effulgent Release” by an additional +200% (additive) and increases the damage for each exhausted “Effulgent Blade” to +120%. Not an incredibly substantial first Ego to be unlocked, but it slightly boosts her potential damage output.
Ego 2
Her Ego 2 moves Heidemarie’s Mythic card “Effulgent Compression” to her hand at the start of the battle, which is a nice consistency gain in the Chaos-based modes and the first turn of Save, but not the real benefit. The real power of this Ego is that at the start of each turn, Heidemarie gains 5 stacks of “Crimson Blade”. Crimson Blade activates whenever a link card is activated manually or discarded. After it is, Heidemarie will deal a 120% Damage Extra-Attack to the enemy that has the highest HP and then remove 1 stack of Crimson Blade. Heidemarie can have up to 8 Stacks of Crimson Blade at once. The Crimson Blade component of this Ego adds another 5 potential extra attacks per turn to Heidemarie, which is a sizable damage boost, especially in Chaos, where high hit counts each turn are harder to guarantee. If you’re looking to invest heavily in Heidemarie, this is the major Ego breakpoint.
Ego 3
Her third Ego increases the base damage on her Ego skill by an additional +200%, the scaling damage per card discarded to +100% and finally, allowing her to scale the damage even further by increasing the damage threshold cap to 30 cards discarded in a battle instead of 20. All up because Heidemarie's Ego Skill only makes up a small portion of her damage, this Ego doesn’t end up being that large of a boost.
Ego 4
Her fourth Ego grants Heidemarie a stack of “Effulgent Chain” whenever one of Heidemarie’s Linked cards is activated manually or discarded. Effulgent Chain can stack up to 10 times permanently and grant her an additional +5% (additive) damage per stack. A very solid buff equivalent to roughly 2.5 morale stacks, which is incredibly easy to get up and running - especially considering these stacks are permanent.
Ego 5
This Ego node increases the base and maximum level of their [Basic Card Upgrade], [Unique Card Upgrade] and [Common Card Upgrade] potentials by 3. Very standard, further amplifies her damage output.
Ego 6
Her final Ego node grants her “Effulgent Blade” elemental advantage to every enemy, which effectively functions as a 1.25x damage multiplier for the card if Heidemarie didn’t already have advantage (Passion weak enemy). In addition, every time “Crimson Blade” is activated, it increases the damage dealt by Crimson Blade by an additional +40%, up to a maximum of +480% after 12 activations. Our calculations don’t include the boost from enemy weakness, as that part of this Ego is conditional, but does include the damage boost from Crimson Blade; therefore, you can treat the calculation number as the minimum potential gain you can expect. That means this is a very potent Ego to pick up for most Heidemarie decks.
Elysium of Blades
Ego Skill
Elysium of Blades is Heidemarie's Ego Skill - It costs 5 Ego Points to use, deals 400% Damage to a single enemy, increasing by an additional +80% (additive) Damage for each card discarded (up to 20 cards discarded), for a total of 2000% damage once you’ve discarded 20 cards. This does require some ramp-up to fully maximize its damage output, but it offers a potent one-time nuke at some point in the fight. Usually not a major contributor to Heidemarie's total damage, but nice to max out a single turn's damage total.
Sword Flash
Sword Flash is Heidemarie’s Basic attack card, dealing 100% damage to an enemy at the cost of 1-AP. Very standard, not much utility outside of Chaos style content, as Heidemarie is generally going to remove this card in Save Data content. However, after Heidemarie’s 3-1 Potential is unlocked, it provides an additional +30% damage to Effulgent Blade for 1 turn, which grants it some additional utility but usually still not enough to see play in Save Data game modes.
Sword Barrier
Show Effects
Heidemarie’s Basic support card shields for 100% for 1 AP. No utility outside of early in Chaos, generally the first card to be removed and isn’t looking to be kept in a deck.
Sword Rain
[Linked]
Show Effects
Sword Rain is Heidemarie’s starting Rare card and is a 1 AP Attack-Card that deals 80% damage to an enemy twice. It also features the [Linked] tag and has an Attunement effect that creates 1 “Effulgent Blade” in Heidemarie's hand. This is Heidemarie’s bread and butter for Effulgent Blade generation and is one of the best cards to discard her Effulgent Blades thanks to the [Linked] tag forming an easy 1-card combo of drawing Sword Rain, triggering its Attunement and then playing it to immediately discard and trigger the Effulgent Blade’s generated as well as any other [Linked] cards.
Hero to All
[Quietus]
Show Effects
Hero to All is a 1-Cost Skill card that has the [Quietus] tag. When played or discarded (thanks to [Quietus]), it draws 3 cards from the Deck and applies the [Linked] tag to all cards drawn. Drawing 3 cards is extremely powerful; however, due to the linked mechanic, as soon as you play any one of them, the other 2 will be discarded to no effect unless they have a discard effect or the [Quietus]/[Attunement] tags. Because of this, this card is only situationally a draw 3. Instead, in most cases, it’s a draw 3 choose one to play and discard the other 2. Still strong, just not universally useful.
Thread of Light
[Linked]
Show Effects
Thread of Light is a 1-Cost Attack card that also has the [Linked] tag, which, when activated, deals 120% damage to an enemy plus +120% (additive) for each [Linked] card in hand when played. This card works as a stronger alternative [Linked] combo starter to Sword Rain for Effulgent Blades and works best by generating a large amount of blades, so you have ample [Linked] cards in hand, allowing you to play it as a huge nuke, which then triggers all the blades after. While fine in its base version, this card has quite a few drastically different epiphanies that can be preferred more.
Effulgent Expansion
[Quietus]
Show Effects
Effulgent Expansion is a 2-Cost Skill Card that has the [Quietus] tag. When activated, it creates 2 Effulgent Blades in Heidemarie's hand and increases the damage dealt by Effulgent Blade when it’s both activated and discarded by an additional +50% for 1 turn. This card doubles as both Blade generation and buffing, making it an incredible card for both Save and Chaos-based game modes. The downside of it though, is that without a deterministic discard outlet, it’s challenging to play due to its high cost and the fact that it doesn’t have [Linked]. As long as you can effectively trigger [Quietus] on your decks, this is one of Heidemarie's most powerful cards and after Epiphanies, only becomes even stronger.
Effulgent Compression
[Unique][Linked][Retrieve 3]
Show Effects
Effulgent Compression is an unusable Mythic Skill card that has the [Unique / Linked / Retrieve 3] tags. When this card is moved to the graveyard, Heidemarie gains 1 stack of Effulgent Light. When Heidemarie gains 3 stacks of Effulgent Light, it transforms Effulgent Compression into “Effulgent Release” and removes all stacks of Effulgent Light. Thanks to the [Retrieve 3] on this card, it allows you to discard it with the [Linked] mechanic and immediately move it back into your hand to discard again, to continually gain stacks each turn, making it realistic to fully transform this card each turn in endgame decks if you draw it early enough. Note: When this card is discarded at the end of the turn, it will grant a stack of Effulgent Light..

Gear
The Memory Fragments & Equipment suggestions below are based on calculations we did. If you want to check the damage formula and how scaling the damage works in CZN, check this guide.
[4-PC]: When a Passion or Void Attribute Attack Card of this unit is Discarded, +15% Critical Chance for 1 turn (max 15%, max 2 stacks)
[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.
The combination of 4P Prelude and 2P Executioner's is Heidemarie's best gear set choice in most cases. However how much better it is than other options depends on what Partner you're using on her and what teammates you run alongside her. If you're running Heidemarie's signature partner Sylvia who grants a lot of passive Crit DMG (which these calcs are using) the Crit Rate from this set performs better, without Sylvia its performance is closer to 2/2/2.
[2-PC]: +12% Attack.
[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.
2/2/2 is as always for all DPS a solid option. However for Heidemarie it's almost never her best choice due to her having a dedicated set designed for her (4P Prelude to a Hero) as well as her ability to run 4P Conqueror's Aspect fairly efficiently. Because of this 2/2/2 is usually only recommended if you don't have a good 4P Prelude set yet and or 4P conqueror's isn't efficient for your team.
In the Flex slots, for more damage use 2P Cursed Corpse (if you can keep Agony on targets at all times). Alternatively for stronger Chaos starts try 2P Seth's Scarab. If neither of those options work or appeal to you, you can also use any 2 strong sub/main stat pieces instead of a final 2P set bonus as well.
[4-PC]: +35% Critical Damage of 1-cost cards.
[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.
4P Conqueror's Aspect has the potential to beat out 2/2/2 in damage and compete with 4P Prelude in the right teams. In most builds a large amount of Heidemarie's damage comes from 1 cost cards like Sword Rain and Effulgent Blade (discard effect counts) both of which gain the 35% crit dmg bonus. What holds 4P Conqueror's back is when Heidemarie gains major sources of damage which aren't 1 cost such as Nia's Soul Rip or her E2 activations. When these additional sources of damage are factored in it usually performs on par with 2/2/2 but worse than 4P Prelude.
In a lot of cases, flat sub-stats are better than percentage ones when it comes to HP, ATK and DEF. The reason behind this is that in CZN the characters stats are pretty low and you get more value from flat bonus rather than percentage one based on calcs.
Extra DMG% > CRIT Rate% = CRIT DMG% > ATK% >= ATK
Maxing out Heidemarie's Potential 7 is the main stat breakpoint to watch out for. Fortunately it's incredibly easy to do so and all you need is 700 ATK which almost all Heidemarie builds can accomplish.
Our best Partner recommendation try to balance both the raw damage boost they provide based on our calculations with the additional utility provided by the skill - combined with how it interacts with the characters's kit. We have rated each Partner based on how much additional damage and the utility they provide. Read the comments under each Partner to better understand our reasoning.
No calculations in Chaos Zero Nightmare are completely accurate for all scenarios, including the ones below. What team, decks, epiphanies, gear, equipment, and enemies you’re facing all impact them. Because of this, take the results as guidelines and combine them with the explanations to make your decisions. Calculations use endgame save data set-ups, including 5 turns of combat using the whole deck with all Ego skills unless otherwise stated.
Increase the assigned Combatant's Attack by 16-24%.
Each time the assigned Combatant's Linked cards are used manually or Discarded, gain 1 [Zephyr].
When [Zephyr] reaches 3, +20-40% Critical Damage to assigned Combatant.
[Zephyr]: +15-30% Damage Amount to assigned Combatant's Passion Attack Cards (max 3 stacks).
Select up to 2 cards in hand, apply Linked.
If a selected card is the assigned Combatant's Linked card, +10% Critical Damage to assigned Combatant for each.
For those looking to max out investment in Heidemarie, it should be no surprise that a max Ego level Sylvia (her Signature) is her best choice. It provides a huge amount of Crit DMG, Combat ATK% and Passion Attack Card damage. For more details on why Sylvia is so strong compared to other options, though, check out the E0 explanation.
Increase the assigned Combatant's Attack by 16-24%.
Each time the assigned Combatant's Linked cards are used manually or Discarded, gain 1 [Zephyr].
When [Zephyr] reaches 3, +20-40% Critical Damage to assigned Combatant.

Select up to 2 cards in hand, apply Linked.
If a selected card is the assigned Combatant's Linked card, +10% Critical Damage to assigned Combatant for each.
Of all Heidemarie's Partner options, E0 Sylvia is definitely her best choice and one of the go-to mid-investment upgrades you can pick up to meaningfully boost her damage. What makes Sylvia so strong in comparison to other Partners is the passive Crit DMG she provides, a stat which is very hard to pick up elsewhere, either from team, card or stage buffs, making it incredibly potent in ultra endgame where stats like card damage are heavily saturated.
Increase the assigned Combatant’s Attack by 12–20%
+20/40% Damage Amount to Extra Attacks dealt by the assigned Combatant.
When the assigned combatant Draws for the first time each turn using an ability, +10/20% Attack Card Damage for 1 turn.
Deal 250% Damage. Apply 1 Mark.
E4 Solia is the next best mid-spender option who definitely falls meaningfully behind Sylvia and also can be outperformed by a few close contenders below due to extra utility they have which Solia does not. If you already have E4 Solia she can be slotted in, but if you can manage to acquire Sylvia or have a partner like Marin they're usually a better choice all things considered.
Increase the assigned Combatant’s Attack by 16–24%.
The Extra Attack damage of cards generated by the assigned combatant's abilities increases by 15/30%.
When a Skill Card is used for the first time by the assigned Combatant each turn, +25/50% Damage Amount to Extra Attacks for 1 turn.
Deal 200% Damage to all enemies. Draw 1 skill cards.
E0 Marin is close to Solia in terms of damage performance, but carries the benefit of her Ego skill, offering a Skill Card Draw, which in Chaos and even some Save Data modes/decks can be useful. In many cases, Marin can also be easier to acquire than E4 Solia, so if you already have Marin, she's fine, and often better than Solia to use.
Increase the assigned Combatant’s Attack by 12–20%
+20/40% Damage Amount to Extra Attacks dealt by the assigned Combatant.
When the assigned combatant Draws for the first time each turn using an ability, +10/20% Attack Card Damage for 1 turn.
Deal 250% Damage. Apply 1 Mark.
E0 Solia is significantly worse than E4 Solia and only slightly ahead of the completely F2P E4 Nakia. If you already have her raised, she's ok to slot in instead of Nakia, but otherwise it's better to aim for one of the options above long term.
Increase the assigned Combatant's Attack by 8/16%.
The assigned combatant's Extra Attack damage is increased by 10/20%.
When the assigned combatant uses an Upgrade or Skill card, 25/50% chance to gain 1 Morale for 1 turn.
Draw 1 Enhanced Card(s).
If there are no Enhance Cards in the Draw Pile, Draw 1 Card.
Heidemarie is usually on the team to deal damage herself, either as the main damage or a strong Sub Damage Dealer. Because of this, E4 Rosaria isn't as attractive as some other support characters like Veronica. With that said, how good Rosaria is depends entirely on what type of deck you're playing with Heidemarie. If you're leaning into more Skill Cards, Rosaria's performance will improve compared to the number represented, but if you're focused on a full damage deck, she usually isn't as good as running a pure damage partner. However, she is a noticeable improvement over Nakia, thanks to her better damage and utility and is even recommended over E0 Solia for the same reasons.
The assigned combatant's Attack is increased by 8/16%.
When an ally defeats an enemy, gain 1 [Backline Support].
[Backline Support]: +10/20% Damage of 1 attack card. Upon activation, Backline Support is reduced by 1 (up to 3 stacks).
Deal 200% Damage.
A F2P option that's fine to use if you have nothing else, but falls behind in damage and utility, plus has a less impactful Ego Skill than all the above options. Should be replaced as soon as you're able.
Notably worse than E4 Rosaria and even falls behind E4 Nakia in damage, but is still close enough that if Nakia and E0 Rosaria are all you have, you can still consider Rosaria instead for her Ego Skill, which adds an upgrade or draws a card.
In the Zero System, it’s incredibly easy to access all items acquirable via the shop thanks to the five free refreshes you get each shop node - that's why the recommendations below are limited to them only. ATTENTION! Area-specific items can sometimes be more powerful than shop items, but are far less consistent to get or require running a specific world or giving up certain event options. Use the shop list as a starting point for building up your deck saves.
The equipment recommendations are based on items obtainable in Season 2’s Chaos - Burning Life. If you’re running content outside of Season 2, it’s possible some options may not be available for acquisition, or that other options not obtainable in Burning Life may be better.
We're currently working on updating all builds for Season 3.
Deck & Teams
Heidemarie is enough in Chaos that she can easily serve as a Solo Carry in most encounters, leaving the remaining two team slots open to fill as you see fit. Popular choices for these slots are Nia or Cassius for healing, Discard synergy, and Draw Power. Diana is also a strong choice alongside Heidemarie as a secondary Damage Dealer who shares the same discard synergy, allowing for interplay between their decks. Outside of that, most generic shielders, supports, and healers also work within Heidemarie's teams in Chaos.
