Thoran is a S-rank Graveborn Tank who’s all about staying alive in the most unexpected ways. He’s not your typical tank who just soaks up damage—he’s tanky because he cheats Death and Life Steals from enemies while thereby making them easier to kill.

When Thoran’s on the field, he drains HP from enemies based on their current HP and adds it to his own. On top of that, the enemies affected are inflicted with increased damage taken for the rest of the fight. This not only makes him harder to kill but also helps his team to deal more damage. If you’ve unlocked Supreme+, his Ultimate lets him drain HP again from enemies he’s already stolen from.

The coolest thing about Thoran is his Resurrection ability. Once per battle, when he ‘dies,’ he becomes untargetable and starts gaining HP and Energy. His Ultimate, Soul Retaliation, is a powerful charged slash that gets stronger the more damage he takes while charging. Furthermore, even if he is knocked out mid-charge, he’ll still unleash the slash before activating Resurrection.

His Hero Focus is pretty unique as he gains Energy recovery, more so when he has died once already and triggered Resurrection.

Soul Pact gives him even more staying alive power by linking him to an ally behind him who transfers half of the damage he takes to. Accordingly, when Thoran ‘dies’ for the first time, the linked ally sacrifices some HP to bring him back, adding to the healing from his Resurrection.

Performance in Various Game Modes:
  • Story and AFK/Talent Stages - Thoran serves as a Tank who can take a beating TWICE while also offering solid utility by debuffing enemies, making them take increased damage. However, he’s not invincible—he can sometimes get overwhelmed, forcing him to trigger his Resurrection. During this time, the backline is left vulnerable, so it’s a good idea to pair him with another Tank or frontliner to keep your team protected.

  • Dream Realm - If you’re using Thoran here, it’s likely for one of two reasons: his cheat death mechanic that's good against King Croaker, or the increased damage taken from Soul Plunder. Either way, he’s decent for the debuff, but not much else. That’s why he’s not used as often, especially in seasons where King Croaker isn’t a Dream Realm Boss.

  • PVP - He has been mostly superseded in regular arena as Phraesto is tankier overall and can split the damage between two targets, though he still sees usage as counter to some melee teams, and burst teams. In the Supreme Arena he is still very relevant, especially on the maps where he can link to an ally.

  • Battle Drills - Thoran's Cheat Death mechanic isn't that useful here and there are better options for debuffing.

Conclusion

Thoran is an amazing hero, especially in PVP, though his performance elsewhere can be hit or miss. That said, you can’t go wrong slotting him in as a frontliner. He’s definitely a hero worth adding to your wishlist to get him to Supreme+.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
