Thoran is an S-Level Tank of the Graveborn faction. His kit is centered around both sustain and surprisingly high amounts of damage, and he fits well in basically any team featuring Graveborn characters.

His "Resurrection" passive is the bread and butter of his sustain, causing him to go untargetable upon taking lethal damage and slowly healing up a percentage of his HP. Note that this effect can only be triggered once per battle, and his untargetability does mean that enemies will run right past him if he dies, attacking your back-line. He has a different way of staying alive in "Soul Plunder" which makes him target an enemy with a chain that steals a percentage of their HP; as this is based on their current HP, it is potent against high-HP enemies such as bosses or particularly healthy frontliners like Lucius, Seth and Granny Dahnie.

Thoran is no slacker in the offensive department either. His Ultimate: "Soul Retaliation" causes him to charge for a few seconds before unleashing a large cleave that deals AoE damage plus a percentage of the damage he received during the charge-up. This can hit unreasonably hard, and it's not weird for him to, with proper placement, take the top DPS spot in a team.

Thoran's Exclusive Weapon causes him to sign a pact with the ally on the tile directly behind him. Thoran takes half of the damage that his pactbound ally would receive, while on the other hand, if Thoran takes lethal damage, he steals a majority of his pactbound ally's current HP to resurrect himself.

This is incredibly potent in terms of sustain, and allows Thoran to resurrect twice per battle in combination with his "Resurrection" skill. Have Thoran make pacts with high-sustain characters like Igor, Seth, Shakir, Scarlita or with healers like Smokey and Hewynn to allow both parties to make full use of the ability's pact.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Highest damage potential Tank in the game if placed/timed properly.

  • Lots of self-sustain even without a healer.

  • Hard to get rid of due to his resurrection mechanics.

Cons

  • Very brittle for a tank - has no in-built damage reduction for himself.

  • "Resurrection" causes him to go untargetable which makes enemies target other allies.

  • Ultimate can be hit or miss especially if AI controlled.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
