Soren is an A-level Rogue from the Mauler Faction. He is the new Valen-level character, meaning his kit is good but he cannot go online and do what he is designed to do without dying.

Starting from the defining thing about Soren, his ultimate 'Whirlwind Swing', he can cast this wherever with global range; he goes to the designated tile and swings his pole around, dealing damage and knocking back enemies by 1 tile, dealing more damage and stuns them if they collide with allies, enemies, battlefield borders, or even terrain which is what Alsa can do with her 'Stone Barrier' ability, so you could technically connect the stun most of the time if you're using Soren with Alsa. What makes this ultimate kind of frustrating is that it is not an auto-friendly ultimate to use even though it prioritizes the ones the position where a lot of enemies can be stunned. You could also manually control that ult to stun very important enemies like DPS or Supports rather than stunning the frontline.

'Repel Sweep' is a good ability for the utility, like stunning enemies who collide with the knockback from the skill, and pretty much Soren repositions to make sure it goes well, but that's also one of the bad things about this skill; it can make Soren reposition to essentially a bad place where his allies cannot save him or peel for him.

'Deflecting Swing' is an ineffective passive. It only blocks one instance of damage taken and has a long cooldown. Furthermore, it triggers with any attack higher than 10% of Soren's HP, which for a Rogue can be anything. It also resets 'Repel Sweep', which is cool to give more utility by stunning more. Hero Focus of Haste is excellent for his kit; there is nothing much to say there.

His Mythic+ Passive 'Dusk Rejuvenation' looks amazing at first but it's not that good. The key factor that makes this passive terrible is that it only heals Soren for 4% (5% if lvl 4 exclusive skill) max HP per second, which is abysmally low when his max HP is already smaller than his temper. He peaks at Supreme+, where his Enhance Force increases knockback distance of his Repel Sweep to 2 tiles when Deflecting Swing is triggered. It gives extra damage based on around 50% of the damage the 'Deflecting Swing' mitigates.

Conclusion

If you really want to play Soren, pair him with Alsa and a tank that can give him survivability like Antandra's Shield Formation or Thoran's Soul Pact. As for supports that can be used with Soren, it can be Rowan to charge ult quickly also giving Soren emergency heal, another option will be Damian or Hewynn so that they can heal him in ranges that Smokey cannot reach.

Season of Strife Skill

Battle Rush is a good skill for Soren, if not for the fact that his own survivability is as sturdy as a card pyramid. In this case, it's a bad skill; it's better to have a defensive type skill instead.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Hybrid-like kit with damage and CC,

  • If things go his way, he can constantly harass enemies.

Cons

  • Sadly, they rarely go his way as he often dies before doing anything due to the lack of any survival mechanics in his kit despite being a melee character,

  • The self-healing is terrible and you often die before it does anything.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
