Review

Rhys is an S-Level Marksman of the Mauler faction. His kit revolves around constantly moving around the map while dealing consistent AoE and single-target damage.

His ultimate, “Flame Barrage”, causes him to stop in his tracks and shoot 6 projectiles across the battlefield, dealing substantial AoE damage, and loading his gun with Blast Ammo, which enhances his normal attacks with extra splash damage until he gets stopped by a crowd control effect. Interestingly enough, this ultimate has a passive component, in that ATK SPD and Haste won’t affect his animation speed, but get converted into 2 Crit DMG Boost for each point of both.

“Defensive Stance” passively grants Rhys up to 15 Crit, and has an Active component where when he gets hit by a Crowd Control effect, he gains control immunity and restores some HP, on a 12s cooldown, going down to a staggeringly low 3s at Supreme+. “Concussive Strike” is an AoE knockback attack Rhys can use on a 10s cooldown as long as he hasn’t yet loaded Blast Ammo. His Hero focus grants him a large Crit DMG boost, which helps further boost his damage potential.

As for his EX Weapon, “Fury Rush”, it gives his bonus movement speed, and after 5s he loads Blast Ammo automatically. Upgrades increase Blast Ammo’s damage multipliers, and at +5 he also gets a bigger splash arc on his Blast Ammo.

Overall, Rhys is a solid ranged physical damage option in both AoE and bossing scenarios, but not the absolute best in any content at the moment.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Good single target damage in Dream Realm - works great with Kruger’s physical debuff.

  • Good AoE damage - works well in general PVE content.

  • Very Mobile unit - can sometimes dodge certain attacks due to his speed.

Cons

  • Not the absolute best in either AoE or single-target damage scenarios due to his jack-of-all-trades approach.

  • Somewhat vulnerable to Crowd Control before Supreme+

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
