Review
Ludovic is a Graveborn Support character focusing on providing ample consistent healing, as well as a small offensive buff thanks to his seasonal skill and a stun ability at Supreme+.
His gimmick is that he places a field of flowers to heal allies, damage enemies, and stun any enemy who walks into it at Supreme+, with a 12s cooldown, and he can also reposition his field to follow allies. In terms of raw healing numbers, Ludovic is second only to Smokey, in drawn-out fights, while being less vulnerable to CC and therefore becoming a viable option for Arena, unlike Smokey. Ludovic also has the advantage of healing right away, so here we have someone who heals more than Hewynn and doesn’t require his ultimate to start healing.
But when we look at his kit, what Ludovic fails to provide, is utility.
While every other support provides ample buffs or utility, Ludovic mostly just provides heals, which makes it difficult to recommend using him as your only support, so he works better when paired up with someone who can offer the team more significant buffs, such as Hewynn or Koko.
We’ll now go over his performance in each game mode:
Story/AFK stages - Ludovic is usable, along with a second healer, and auto-friendly up until the point where the usual DPS characters can still kill the enemy before running out of time. But at a higher deficit, you’ll want to switch back to Smokey-based teams, as simply having big healing numbers doesn’t quite cut it at that point.
Dream Realm - Ludovic has damage worth mentioning, but he works best as Support for Talene specifically, thanks to his consistent healing allowing Talene to keep her ultimate up, he shines in the same conditions where she does well, which are the King Croaker, Skyclops, and Lone Gaze bosses, along with Phraesto, requiring high investment overall.
PVP – Ludovic shines best in the Talene team, used along with Scarlita, as he can reliably counter other meta teams, such as those built around Dionel or Eironn.
Do note that Ludovic deals little damage in traditional 5v5 fights, and his damage contribution is only significant against bosses. So he is used in PVP for his convenient faction to pair up with Thoran teams and for consistent heals to function as a Talene enabler, and may require a second healer to go along to protect him from dying early to wilder damage, which is extra effective against Graveborn heroes and still prevalent in the PVP meta.
Fights will still often come down to a Scarlita vs Scarlita fight, if the other team also happens to have her, as neither Talene or Ludovic has a way to survive Scarlita’s execution ability.
In the early game when Cecia teams are still relevant, Ludovic fits right in for mono graveborn core teams, such as Ludovic, Thoran, and Cecia/Viperian for example.
Supreme Arena – Ludovic’s value goes up in Supreme Arena and other multi-team content, as support characters become more valuable, and having an extra healer for one of your teams can be what tips the scales in your favor.
Battle Drills – Here, Ludovic is more useful as a bossing unit, but he can also help make Graveborn carries viable in 3 man teams for clearing mob stages, benefiting from faction bonus.
Ludovic is already usable at one copy thanks to impressive healing numbers coming from the way his base kit functions.
Legendary+ gives him more healing.
Mythic+ gives him a little extra damage and even more healing.
Supreme+ gives him a 3s stun ability on a 12s cooldown.
Supreme+ EX +10 is a good stopping point as we reach the peak of his healing abilities just before hitting diminishing returns.
If you invested heavily in Talene, or if Graveborn units are important for your game plan and you want a Support that matches their faction, Ludovic is a worthy addition to your teams. But if that is not the case and you already invested in other supports who offer more than just healing, it is safe to skip him.
Soul-lifting Touch provides Ludovic with some much-needed ATK and HASTE buffs for your team, but they are very situational, targeting only the ally who dealt the most damage and has over 75% health remaining, with a cap of 60% uptime (3s buff every 5s), so it works best for hypercarry teams that rely mostly on one unit to do damage.
Second highest sustained healing output, just behind Smokey.
Convenient faction for Graveborn teams.
Low ramp-up time on his healing.
Low uptime on his stun and buffs, making him mostly just a “heal bot”.
Best teams require Talene, who is already a niche character herself, and a high investment overall.
Weak against the Wilder faction, which is prevalent in the PVP meta.
