Lucius is an A-Level Tank from the Lightbearer faction. He is the first Tank that you will get when you start the game. He is a decent tank for the early game cause of his shield and healing, but he is easily overshadowed by other tanks after that as he's not strong enough to fill the main tank role.

His ult, 'Divine Light Aegis' gives allied heroes a sizeable shield that lasts for a fair amount of time. What's so good about this ult is that it can target any location and not locked into targeting an ally and missing another ally a tile far from them. This is also gonna be the main reason why you would consider running Lucius as a sub-tank cause you can charge it fast with 'Rowan' which people call it shield looping.

Using his skill 'Divine Bash' Lucius shield bashes an enemy dealing damage then knocks them down and gains a shield. This is a decent skill just for the shield so you get more survivability, at lvl 2 of this skill it stuns the enemy that was knocked down for a second which is alright.

'Divine Light Blessing' gives him something niche with his shields. It's a passive that whenever Lucius gets a shield the weakest ally is healed scaling with ATK and the shield value of what he gained and 'Hero Focus' increases the healing received by allies from it which makes Lucius technically part support. In the chance that you will get Lucius to Mythic+, 'Righteous Fury' is underwhelming cause it's a skill that attacks enemies upfront reducing their ATK for a few seconds on a very long cooldown. At lvl 2 it will give a shield based on his max HP that is worse than the 'Divine Bash' shield. Supreme+ Lucius is pretty good, increasing the number of allies that get healed whenever he gets a shield to 2 but I suggest you don't focus on ascending Lucius for this alone, it's a good skill nonetheless.

The reason why Lucius is not a good main tank is cause he has no way to mitigate damage or stall like how Antandra, Brutus, and Thoran do so he mostly dies before you get to cast 'Divine Light Aegis'. At the moment he is not the most desirable tank to use if you want to progress fast in the AFK Stages but he is an option on Battle Drills where you use multiple different teams to progress.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Can be a shield bot with Rowan.

  • Can heal allies when gaining a shield.

  • Decent choice for Battle Drills.

Cons

  • Loses relevancy after early AFK stages.

  • Cannot be a main tank.

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
