Review

Hugin is an A-rank Lightbearer Support. He is a buff support that can grant huge shields to allies, and upon reaching M+ EX+10 makes them CC Immune. While his abilities look impressive on paper, he lacks synergy with many heroes presently in the game, and his kit has notable drawbacks that require creative workarounds.

Hugin's Mechanized Bond ability etches a tile behind him, granting any ally positioned there an ATK boost and Energy whenever he activates Titan's Aegis. However, if the ally leaves the tile or is displaced by an enemy, they lose these buffs. In order to maximize this ability gain, you can build a full turtle comp or use Odie as the Mechanized Bond target, as he typically sticks to one place throughout the battle. Another neat interaction with the Mechanized Bond tile is with Damian, when he goes away and summons his cart, he is still buffed by the tile as if he was still on the tile.

Performance in Various Game Modes
  • Story and AFK Stages - Hugin is great at AFK Stage pushing, as he is technically Koko but with better buffs and comparable defensive capabilities. Just note that Hugin needs to be M+ in order to give more shields compared to Koko at base. He further needs Odie as a Mechanized Bond target to maximize his potential.

  • Dream Realm - Aside from providing literal ATK and Haste boosts on his Ultimate and shielding, Hugin isn’t worth using in this mode. Mechanized Bond cannot be fully utilized, as there isn’t a viable DPS commonly used in Dream Realm that can consistently stay on his tile. There are just better options.

  • PVP - Hugin will not be seen a lot in PVP Arena. In Supreme Arena, however, you can pair him with Odie on Map 3, equipping a Defensive Artifact to enhance his tankiness. While it can be easily disrupted by any displacement, the massive shields and buffs can still come in clutch.

  • Battle Drills – Hugin performs badly in this game mode, as there are better alternatives.

Hugin can work at base, but to provide more shields and grant CC immunity, additional dupes are required.

  • Legendary+ gives him more Haste.

  • Mythic+ will provide 2 of the weakest allies a massive shield. At EX+10, those characters under that shield will be CC Immune while it's active.

  • Supreme+ will make allies under Hugin's shields take 30% less damage.

Recommended to upgrade him to M+ EX+10 for the extra shields and CC Immunity.

Conclusion

Hugin has strong potential as a support, but it’s not his time to shine just yet. Still, consider pulling a few copies of him to help with your AFK Stage progression.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
