Review

Cryonaia is an S-Rank Hypogean Mage who can freeze time and the battlefield, isolating enemies in her domain of Eternal Winter to swiftly defeat them.

Cryonaia’s skills are basic damaging attacks, that is, until she unleashes her Ultimate, which grants her a shield, Control Immunity, Haste and Attack, ending early when her shield breaks.

But although her Ultimate is very powerful, she is vulnerable until she can cast it.

Now, for a quick overview of her performance in the various game modes:

  • Story and AFK stages – Cryonaia is a very effective AFK stage pusher thanks to being able to freeze time, as well as execute enemies below a certain HP threshold with her Supreme+ upgrade, but she does get completely shut down against high burst damage enemies that can kill her before she gets her Ultimate out.

  • Dream Realm – Cryonaia is a viable choice in Harak teams. Normally, her kit would be ill-suited for Dream Realm bosses, considering the fact that she effectively debuffs her own team after her time frozen limit is used up, but if Harak manages to consume her after she has cast her Ultimate a few times, the rest of the team can once again use their abilities freely, making her a good addition to Harak teams that can mitigate her main downside.

  • PVP – Cryonaia’s Ultimate is one of the most powerful for PVP, and if she gets her Ultimate out, she is almost guaranteed to win the battle, as she quickly charges her Ultimate after the first one through killing the enemy team, allowing her to cast it again while the enemy is helpless to fight back. But she does have some notable counterplay, namely, she can be killed before she gets to cast her Ultimate at all, making her easily counterable on defense depending on attacker unit roster, and being an Ultimate-reliant hero, Lily May is an ever present threat capable of cancelling Cryonaia’s Ultimate, but the sheer power behind her Ultimate makes these weaknesses less relevant.

  • Battle Drills – Cryonaia is a great option for mob stages, and pairs well with Harak against bosses.

Investment
  • Legendary+ gives her extra ATK

  • Mythic+ makes her the only one capable of using her Ultimate in the domain of Eternal Winter, as well as dealing some damage when enemies are brought into her domain.

  • Her EX +15 is notable here as it extends the duration of her domain from 12s to 30s.

  • Supreme+ allows her to instantly defeat enemies under a certain threshold.

Cryonaia is quite squishy at 1 copy, and prone to having her Ultimate interrupted, so she does not perform very well.

Ideally, she requires relatively high investment, up to S+ and EX +15 to unlock both her execution and extend her Ultimate’s duration, and being a DPS hypercarry, she greatly benefits from Paragon tiers.

Conclusion

Cryonaia is not an essential character to have, rather, she is more of a luxury pull and often requires other Hypogeans/Celestials to shine and is the most impactful for PvP. Pull for her if you want to climb in PvP, or possibly enhance your Harak bossing teams, otherwise, she is safe to skip.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Unique Ultimate combining the best of Dunlingr (Ultimate Denial) and Scarlita (Instant Elimination).

  • Can freeze the stage clock.

  • High Damage

  • Can buff herself

Cons

  • Squishy, especially before and after casting her Ultimate , lacking defensive skills.

  • High Investment required.

  • Highly reliant on her Ultimate.

  • Effectively debuffs her own team if Harak is not there to take her out of battle, especially for Dream Realm.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
