Berial is an S-Level Assassin of the Hypogean faction. His kit is tailored to deal with Isolated enemies, meaning enemies with no allies within a 1 tile radius of them. This often includes backliners such as healers, DPS, but also other Assassins that dive into your team.

"Shadow Trick" is the core of Berial's kit, causing him to go Invincible and bounce between Isolated opponents to deal damage. If there are no Isolated enemies, he heals himself instead. This combined with "Devil's Contract" which allows him to resurrect himself once if an enemy is killed while he is dead makes him a deceptively hard unit to get rid of.

His Ultimate "Scared Swamp" further adds to his 'annoying' kit, absorbing Energy continuously from a target and causing a big explosion that Frightens enemies hit at the end of the channel (during which he is also Invincible). This is a large contributor to Berial's disruptive kit, though this type of kit allocation does mean that Berial, on average, deals considerably less damage than standard Assassins or even other typical DPS.

His Exclusive Weapon grants him access to "Shadow Reflection" which causes enemies that remain Isolated for extended periods of time to lose Energy rapidly and summon a Silhouette of Berial to attack them.

Berial is all about disruption, and while he is often looked down on for being weak in the damage department (especially for an 'assassin') he has his niches, such as dealing with other Assassins (Silvina, Vala) and exploiting poor positioning. His constant Invincibility also means he is great at dodging high-threat attacks in PVP, being very hard to take down while killing his enemies one by one.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • 'Neutral' faction means he is versatile in his teambuilding options.

  • A lot of disruption if the situation is right for it.

  • Great in PVP.

Cons

  • Low personal damage early on and when conditions to make his kit work aren't there.

  • Disruption is applied situationally and relies on enemy placement or unit mistakes.

  • Needs more investment than you realistically want to give him.

Guides

EX Investment

Since the

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
and
Twilight Essence
Twilight Essence
are very hard to obtain, you have to be really careful with the using them to upgrade the EX weapon. And in this guide we ordered all characters by the priority when it comes to how much they need investment in their EX weapon to work well and where should you stop to get the best bang for your buck.

Why does the +8 breakpoint appear so often?

Because the raw stats you get from upgrading the EX weapon help you more than the passive in some cases. Also, to upgrade the EX from +5 to +8 you need only 30x

Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
, while the remaining two levels require additional 45x
Temporal Essence
Temporal Essence
. So you get the best bang for your buck stopping at +8.

Color explanation:

  • +0 - the base investment for the character,
  • +5/8 - the next step that you should do when investing into that character,
  • +10/15 - the final step you should do when investing into that character - you can go beyond that later though once you have the Essences to spare.
