Timed Counters

When carrying "Resolving Caliber", use Basic Attack after Heavy Attack: Strategic Parry or Intro Skill: Defense Formation to cast Timed Counters, performing up to 3 consecutive attacks, dealing Havoc DMG, considered as Basic Attack damage.

Timed Counters consume 1 "Resolving Caliber" upon hitting an enemy to grant a shield. After casting the Intro Skill Defense Formation, using Basic Attack can directly cast Timed Counters.

Resolving Caliber

Taoqi can hold up to 3 Resolving Caliber. Basic Attack IV will consume all of Taoqi's Rocksteady Shields to obtain that many "Resolving Caliber". While Rocksteady Shield exists, when the on-field character is attacked, 1 Rocksteady Shield will be consumed, and "Resolving Caliber" is recovered. After Rocksteady Shield ends, all remaining Rocksteady Shield will be consumed to grant that many "Resolving Caliber".

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Can apply shields to the entire team when able to execute her Forte combo

  • Can heal and effortlessly enable the 5P Healer set bonus meaning she doesn’t need to sacrifice her weapon choice like many other supports

  • Her Resonance skill damage reduction buff persists through character switching

  • Has a powerful Resonance Skill amplification buff Outro

  • Has the ability to mitigate some damage from big hits with her parry

Cons

  • Lacks a dedicated Main DPS that can make use of her Deepen Outro

  • Requires longer on-field time to generate Concerto compared to most other characters in the support or hybrid role

  • Has no currently beneficial supportive Sequences available even after acquiring dupes, compared to competitors granting up to 20% ATK.

  • Has some of the slowest attack animations of any character in the game opening her up to being interrupted by enemy attacks

Review

Taoqi is a 4-star Havoc Broadblade wielder that has the option to act as a Hybrid or Support in endgame content, though due to her slow attack animations, low damage and Concerto Energy generation, she is usually forced into the Support role. It is further accentuated by her limited access to her Forte Gauge ability outside of her Intro Skill, which is not always accessible. Fortunately, her Resonance Skill, combined with the occasional use of her Outro that boosts Resonance Skill damage by 38% for next char, allows her to act as a somewhat viable Support.

Her Resonance Skill emits a pulse around her causing Havoc damage in its radius scaling on her DEF%. This also heals her and summons Rocksteady Shield with 3 charges, where each charge can absorb a single hit from the enemy, reducing damage taken by 15%. This shield is transferable and thus can benefit other characters when you switch.

Her Forte Gauge can accumulate up to 3 charges, which are generated by consumption or expiry of her Rocksteady Shield charges in a ratio of 1:1. A handy trick to note is that Taoqi’s Basic Attack 4 will consume all her currently active Rocksteady Shield charges regardless of their remaining duration, immediately granting her a full Forte Gauge. She can access and then expend these Forte charges by using a Strategic Parry with her Heavy Attack or Intro Skill to then be able to launch a sequence of enhanced Basic Attacks scaling on her DEF% while generating much more Concerto Energy, Resonance Energy and a team wide shield scaling on her DEF%!

Her Ultimate Skill deals a large amount of Havoc damage in a cleaving pattern in front of her, which scales on her DEF%. When built as Hybrid, it can hit quite hard but regardless of playstyle its most important utility is Concerto Energy generation for Taoqi.

Her field time will vary according to her chosen build. When played as Support, she can spend significantly less time on the field, with the option to situationally weave in her enhanced attacks from her Forte skill at cost of more field time. Alternatively, when played as Hybrid her field time grows significantly to cycle her Concerto properly by factoring in her Forte Gauge combo. The result of this is much easier access to her 38% Resonance Skill amplification compared to when played as a support and proper access to her shielding capabilities tied to her Forte combo. Players must choose between a fast supportive playstyle with limited access to Taoqi’s outro and shielding capabilities or a much slower and dangerous playstyle with full access.

She lands on the easier side of the play difficulty spectrum while being played as support. However, if you are playing her as Hybrid, it will require you to build her Concerto Energy in a timely manner increasing the difficulty due to her slow standard and enhanced Basic Attacks. This has to be done with care so Taoqi doesn’t end up causing the team to lose more damage than she can bring due to hogging the field time.

Her preferred choice of set and Echo is the popular combination of Bell-Borne Geochelone Echo & 5P Rejuvenating Glow, which allows her to grant a semi-permanent ATK% boost, temporary DMG% boost and protection from a set number of attacks. In case another character is using the above set or you wish to play her as Hybrid, she can make use of the 5P Moonlit Glow and Impermanence Heron Echo combo instead.

Overall, Taoqi is currently sparsely used in Tower of Adversary, thanks to a multitude of factors the biggest of which are her sluggish gameplay which takes more field time compared to her alternatives, her vulnerability to interruptions and finally her lack of synergistic characters to play alongside. In conclusion Her Support role is easier and takes less field time but restricts access to her Outro amplification , while on the other hand, Hybrid is harder, takes more field time but offers consistent access to not only her Outro amplification but also teamwide shields. Neither of these options are currently popular but as new encounters and characters release Taoqi may find her time to shine.

Ratings

This tier list assesses characters based on their combat potential in Wuthering Waves current most demanding content Tower of Adversity (ToA). ToA is a mode similar to Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss or Honkai Star Rail’s Memory of Chaos and requires multiple teams, strong Echoes and good Weapons. This mode offers a reasonable mix of Boss encounters (single target), Elite packs (2-3 targets) and AoE scenarios (5+ Targets), allowing multiple characters to find a niche but in the end, there's a bias toward single target focused characters at the top-end.

Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.

Best Weapons

1

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 337 | Energy Reg.: 51.8%

A utility-focused weapon prioritizing lightning-fast Concerto rotations over raw output with the ability to transform entire units' action priorities under the right circumstances. Not always a good choice but when implemented correctly makes all the difference. Also offers an immense amount of Energy Regen further accelerating rotations and supportive capabilities.

Best Main Echoes

Echoes in Wuthering Waves are an essential part of the character rotations, granting a large amount of Resonance Energy and damage but at the cost of high field time for the most powerful ones. But by using some Echoes right before you're about to switch out on the character, you're able to move to your next character while your previous one is still in the echo animation - it’s what we call an Echo Swap Cancel.

Echo Swap Cancel is almost always the optimal way to use Echoes, and will result in big reductions in character field time and large increases to DPS, but not all of the most powerful Echoes can be swap cancelled in this way. For example, the Feilian Beringal (Aero), Dreamless (Havoc), Tempest Mephis (Electro), Mourning Aix (Spectro), and Infernal Rider (Fusion) Echoes can all be Swap Cancelled.

The remaining element, so Glacio while having powerful Echoes has none powerful enough that can be swap cancelled, and to make things worse, no Echoes that generate sufficient Energy and damage for their field time investment.

The result of this is that you can expect Glacio characters to have higher field time and lower DPS in calculations than their other elemental counter parts until they receive better Echoes to use.

Set

Rejuvenating Glow

This Echo is an essential asset that almost every team in the game aims to include thanks to its excellent offensive and defensive benefits. The reason for this is the excellent 10% DMG boost it provides throughout its duration but also 50% damage reduction barrier it provides as well. The only catch these buffs have is that they only last for 3 hits meaning after you've taken them you'll lose the buff until you can re-apply it again - even so almost every team aims to have 1 user of this echo. Almost always the main echo of choice for users of the 5P Rejuvenating Glow set.

Set

Moonlit Clouds

Supportive Echo that can be run at the cost of a sizeable chunk of damage for the character who equips, trading personal gain for team benefits. Should always be used and immediately switch cancelled right before performing an Outro, leading to another DPS. When done so will grant the next character switching in 12% increased DMG% which when combined with the 5P Moonlit set which also grants 22.5% ATK% under the same conditions makes for a sizeable boost.

While the echo does lower the damage of whoever wears it, it grants a massive chunk of energy on use usually saving 1 or sometimes even 2 Energy Regen sub stats that may otherwise be needed by the wearer allowing for some damage to be recovered.

Best Endgame Stats (Level 90)

Important! CRIT DMG has base value of 150% and Energy Regen has a base value of 100% when you check them in game. The recommended values below don't include the base value but rather show how much on top of it you need to obtain.

  • HP: 13000+

  • DEF: 1800+

  • Energy Regen: 30-60%

    • The amount of ER Taoqi needs is dependent on how much field time you plan on dedicating to her. If you intend to rely on her Resonance Skill for the majority of her energy neglecting the rest of her kit we recommend using the higher end of ER recommended or even more than it.

    • If you plan on making use of Taoqi's skill and her Forte Gauge combo as well you can build less. Aim for the following range of energy regeneration on Taoqi or more 30-60%+.

Rotation

Below you can find optimal rotation (or rotations) for Taoqi. When selecting the rotations we prioritized achieving 100 Concerto as fast as possible and once that condition was fulfilled, we focused on maximizing the damage output. As or if new and more optimal rotations are found, we'll update the characters calculations as needed.

For warm-up when you don't have an intro available, simply do 2 basics pre-rotation (swap cancel the second one and come back afterwards). A high-refinement Discord is strongly recommended to shorten this rotation due to its extensive length.
