With anniversaries, be it half-anni or the actual anni, Shift Up gives out freebie SSRs. Players this anniversary have the option to MLB Rapunzel: Pure Grace, which we recommend doing so over picking a copy of Snow White: Innocent Days in the selectors. It is very important for newbies to go for this MLB since they want to break the infamous sync 160 wall as soon as they can!

Last year, in Snow White: Innocent Days, we had a borderline good DPS B3 unit. This year, in Rapunzel: Pure Grace, we now have a borderline good support unit - who is actually a Defender class unit for some reason. She directly competes with N102 in the spot for best early game B1 to use. Trust us when we say: Our heartbreak is as great as yours. We were also waiting for Rapunzel's alter to be a super good meta pilgrim release ever since we saw her cameo exactly 1 year ago in the Red Ash event. Yet, we have been given a mediocre supporting kit, which we will now discuss.

Her Skill 1 is one of the most unique gimmicks we have had and offers a unique playstyle for anyone willing to try out new things. There are 2 parts of her skill 1. The first part is simple. Rapunzel gives herself a shield which also protects all alllies from one instance of damage. (Note: this shield will not activate Naga's Skill 1 since Rapunzel does not give individual shields, but instead one huge shield to everyone, similar to Poli). If this shield is broken, she makes a new shield the next time she will burst. This shield is crucial to her gameplay, as the second part of her kit will not work if a shield is not present.

This 2nd part of her Skill 1 is the unique gimmick she has. Rapunzel will provide an Attack Damage buff to all her allies as long as she is holding a full charged shot for more than 1 second. Once she releases her shot, this buff is gone. Now you may think this is fine and harmless. However, not only do you have to manual her and hold her shot, this comes with a detriment due to her Skill 2. Rapunzel's Skill 2 also has 2 parts. Let's discuss the 2nd part first since it is relevant to her Skill 1. As long as she holds her full charged shot and does not shoot, she will lose 2% of her HP every second. Hence, she sacrifices herself to buff her allies, and the gameplay you will have to bear with is just staring at a Rapunzel with a full charged shot without shooting with her, who's backside is fully covered with her veil, only allowing you to have a very small peek at her right thigh during this time. Come on Shift Up, you could've done better with the visuals at least.

The other part of her Skill 2 is something to counter this massive HP drain. This is auto-friendly. Every full charged shot Rapunzel makes, she heals a small % of her HP back. At lvl 10, this skill regains 2% of her HP back with every full charged shot she makes, but we do not recommend investing in her past 4/4/4.

Finally, her burst skill. A 20-second cooldown means she is a highly usable unit, especially early game. This is the simplest part of her kit. It is a mixture of her Skill 1 and Skill 2. She heals herself by increasing her Max HP, and also provides a decent Attack Damage buff to all allies. The value of her Burst skill and Skill 1 Attack Damage buffs together provide a strong alternative to N102. Using Rapunzel over N102 should be a suitable option considering she is a free MLB unit, hence providing more CP to the team as well.

Overall, she does not have a special kit that will carry you through thick and thin. The buffs she provides have okay values, but nothing near what the current Meta B1s can provide. However, a 20s cooldown burst, paired with offensive buffs and a shield that can help you out against 1-2 shots from opponent raptures is satisfactory for a free supporter unit. For new players that lack a B1, Rapunzel is a good option.

Note that Rapunzel: Pure Grace is a welfare unit given to all participants of the 2nd Anniversary Event: Old Tales. She is unobtainable by other means, except through logging in and completing particular missions during the event. You may, however, obtain her dupes with silver mileage in the mileage shop

Pros

  • Provides decent Attack Damage buffs to all allies.

  • Is able to heal herself well.

  • Provides a defensive shield to team - can protect allies from 1-2 enemy shots.

  • Holy thighs!

Cons

  • Weird gimmicky gameplay where you have to hold her charge to provide offensive buffs - non-auto friendly in that sense.

  • Loses HP while providing Skill 1 buffs.

  • She can only heal herself.

  • The value of buffs isn't competitive enough to be meta.

  • Skill 1 attack damage buff doesn't exist in PvP since it is full auto.

  • The veil covers her back way too much.

Investment Tips

Skill Investment

Here's the explanation for all the numbers and colors used in the guide:

  • 10/5/7 means upgrading Skill 1 to lvl 10, Skill 2 to lvl 5, and Burst Skill to lvl 7,
  • Yellow means the immediate investment when u get the unit. There are 3 reasons for this:
    • If the unit is Meta or High Priority, it will have a starting investment of more than 1/1/1 (such as 4/4/4) depending on what the unit provides.
    • If the unit is Medium or Low Priority, 1/1/1 will be mentioned, meaning no immediate investment is required, and you can invest in this character if you need to use it according to the priority listed.
    • If we deem that a unit does not have usable skills to be meta for any gamemode, no investment will be mentioned.
  • Blue means minimum investment to take advantage of the Nikke's skills. There are 2 reasons for this:
    • Sometimes, minimum investments are breakpoints such as for Noir or SAnis.
    • Sometimes, minimum investments are just the ideal way to progress to upgrade that unit, before moving on to Recommended and High.
  • Red means recommended investment for F2P players,
  • Purple means maximum recommended investment, in order to get the best out of the unit. You should only try to reach these investments if you have a surplus of Skill Books leftover.

More info:

  • The skill investment list below features a lot of Level 4 and 7 because they are easier to understand. Any higher levels will cost a new type of resource.
  • However, you may choose to upgrade to Level 5 if you need a stronger effect instead of 4, as the increase in Blue Manual cost from Level 4 to 5 is still low. The leap only starts from Level 6 onward.
  • There is also a leap from Level 3 to 4, so if you want to save a tiny bit of Blue Manuals, then leave at 3 instead of 4.
Gear Investment

This Overload (OL) Recommendations and Priority guide unravels in detail everything you need about a character in terms of priority, overload targets (effects), and order of acquisition, alongside some notes to explain our thinking process.

For OL targets and order of acquisition, we decided to divide the target effects into several categories.

  • Essential: With all gear combined, your unit must have the roll(s) prescribed as a minimum requirement. Example: Charge Speed on Alice. You cannot compromise on these rolls.
  • Ideal: These rolls will improve your unit's performance significantly. Aim for 2 lines of Essential/Ideal per gear for maximum performance and the best Return on Investment (ROI). If you get 3, you are lucky. You can choose to only have 1 as well to save materials. Example: Elemental Damage on Scarlet.
  • Passable: Low-priority line that has either limited value or the impact is not as strong as other rolls. Should this show up as a bonus together with a better line, you can choose to keep them. Example: Charge Speed on Red Hood.

Overload effects are ordered by importance from Left to Right, which means anything on the left provides more value than the right. Effects that belong to the same group generate too similar an impact to make a difference (and are sometimes interchangeable). Try to follow this order as faithfully as possible for maximum mileage.

Additional tips:

  • Priority (PvE/PvP) isn't necessarily lower than Priority (Universal), which has no tag/label. It just indicates that this unit performs only in select types of content.
  • If a suggested effect has the number ×2 next to it, that means you should get the effect on at least 2 gear. The same idea applies to other numbers.
  • Focus on obtaining Essential(s) then you can start worrying about optimizing your rolls. Units require these to function, and the impact is too massive to ignore.
  • If a unit has no Essential(s), that means their performance is not that dependent on OL, but they can still benefit from good effects.
  • Remember that this is just a recommendation list, and attaining perfection is impossible. You will have to make some compromise, pick whichever rolls you desire the most, and conserve as much material as possible.
