Introduction

Matilda is a 5✦ rarity character from the Star afflatus who deals Mental damage and belongs to the Damage class.

Matilda is a Crit Carry, following a similar kind of kit structure as Lilya. She can do a fair amount of single-target damage and can even generate her own Crit rate with her debuff. Despite this, we don't have access to her Portrays at the moment, making her a fair bit weaker than most other 5-star Carries.

Review

Matilda is a crit-oriented character, but her kit doesn’t work much in her favor. She needs to be constantly on a buffed state and have her skill “Ingenious Étude” on level 2 or above to use as an opener in order to make the best use of her potential.

Matilda can be a decent enough Damage Dealer in the early game, but the farther in the game, the more her kit plays against her. Her passives don’t really add anything noticeable, her multipliers are on the lower side, she needs too much set up, and a team built around her to do anything at all. On top of that, her critical technique is below most other critical oriented characters, making it harder for her to get consistent on her critical hits.

Most of these weaknesses could be attenuated if she had access to her Portrays. If you still wish to use her despite all this, she can still fill a sub-DPS and support-ish role by applying Confusion with an innovative Étude. Or you can experiment using her alongside buffers, as Matilda can already fill the role of applying the Confusion debuff herself.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Free character, obtainable through the mail in-game after stage 1-4;
Crit-oriented, and can apply [Confusion] by herself, opening more room for team comps.
Ultimate can be powerful if it lands a critical hit.

Cons

Currently, there's no way to upgrade her Portray; (Gets one free by logging in during patch 1.9)
Below average base critical technique for a crit-oriented character;
Can be difficult to set up in order to deal damage, being below average most of the time.
