Kaalaa Baunaa is a 6✦ rarity character from the Mineral afflatus who deals Mental damage and belongs to the Damage class.

Kaalaa Baunaa is a powerful but slow Carry who uses her [Planet] and [Divination] buffs to empower her own Ultimate and trigger extra actions. Despite being generally good, she cannot generate her own Moxie unlike other Ultimate-oriented Carries, making her extremely AP greedy.

Review

Kaalaa Baunaa is a 6-star Carry of the Mineral Afflatus. She is a powerful Carry who stacks [Planet] buffs on herself using her Skills and Ultimate. With “Enchanted Strike” she progressively gains more layers of [Saturn], which grant Penetration Rate while “Mythical Meteors” grants her stacks of [Mars] which gives her Leech Rate. Her Ultimate, called “Ultimate Perfection” consumes all [Planet]s and grants her [Full Moon] which increases her Incantation Might. At Insight 3, it also immediately recasts the skill corresponding to the most consumed [Planet]s.

This offers Kaalaa Baunaa a lot of set-up potential with her kit. You can decide whether you want additional damage or self-sustain, and prepare your Ultimate to recast those abilities for big burst damage or healing. There really is no Carry like Kaalaa Baunaa to compare her to, even though her “niche” doesn’t extend beyond doing huge numbers.

At Insight 1, she also gains [Divination]s corresponding to the [Planet]s she removes with her Ultimate, further increasing her Penetration Rate, Leech Rate and Incantation Might. Kaalaa Baunaa is all about numbers, and a lot of them.

Despite having such a dramatically high damage ceiling, Kaalaa Baunaa comes with a few caveats. For one, she is the most AP-greedy carry in the game, with no personal Moxie generation to speak of while still having an Ultimate centered gameplan. This forces Kaalaa Baunaa to be quite picky with her teammates. Maybe not as picky as Jessica, however, you’ll need a Support who can still function even if Kaalaa Baunaa is basically the only one doing something every turn.

In addition, Kaalaa Baunaa is not the easiest character to understand. Her kit and especially Insights have a large amount of text that may be hard to digest right away, though once you understand her gameplan, it is quite a bit smoother than one might suspect at first.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Extremely high single-target damage ceiling and excellent consistent damage output.
Can do a lot of self-buffing, especially with the Penetration Rate gained from [Saturn], [Saturn Divination], and the Incantation Might from [Full Moon] and [Full Moon Divination].

Cons

Very AP-greedy carry; cannot function with AP-greedy supports like Necrologist unless placed in 4-people content.
Has a strong desire for Portray 1 due to it offering another [Planet] slot.
