Nanahara Chifuyu is a PVE-oriented utility tank notable for her 100% uptime DEF shred debuff. Chifuyu occupies the valued niche as a DEF shredder. For her consistent debuff uptime and above average survivability (for cost), Chifuyu is considered one of the better frontline tanks in the game.
In PVE, Chifuyu is notable in that she consolidates the roles of frontline tank and DEF shredder. DEF shred will provide a greater damage increase than an equivalent amount of ATK% (up to 100%, as you can’t shred more than 100% of a target’s DEF). PVE comps typically aim to mitigate 100% of the enemy’s DEF, most easily achieved through some combination of DEF shredders (e.g. Ciel, Chifuyu, Tarrasque).
At the highest levels of competitive content, Chifuyu struggles to compete with stronger DEF shredders. With multiple sources of extreme DEF shred (e.g. Ciel), the need for Chifuyu (and the 20% DEF shredders in general) is greatly lessened.
