Review
Goto Ryuji is a powerful Wind Breaker that can deal a surprising amount of damage while providing some buffs to the team. At the same time, he also inflicts a few debuffs you will need to be mindful of, in order to become a national level hunter!
Great damage and powerful Break.
New useful buffs for the Wind team.
You are the storm that is approaching.
Doesn't bring defensive utility.
No new Wind content in sight outside of the simulation gate.
Unfortunately, he was not actually the king.
Goto Ryuji is the secret son of Vergil from Devil May Cry, hailing from the Land of the Rising Sun and bringing a new breeze in the Wind team. He's an HP scaling Breaker that inflicts Break on every ability, cutting through Break bars with the power of god and anime by his side.
His Basic Attack inflicts a small Break to the enemy while his Core Attack inflicts medium Break.
His first skill, Phantom's Heavenly Hurricane can be used up to 6 times and every time he uses this skill, he increases the skill damage by 10%. Using this skill also grants him - [Super Armor] and decreases the damage he receives by 30%. He also gains one stack of [Exorcise] everytime the skill hits, granting himself 3% Critical Damage per stack, up to 5 stacks.
His second skill, ̷Ju̷d̷g̷m̷e̷n̷t̷ ̷Cu̷t̷ Reverse Tempest, inflicts medium Break as well while giving [Super Armor] and 30% damage reduction. After using this skill, his skill 1 gains an extra 30% Skill Damage and Break Damage.
His QTE, Divine Wind, is a simple medium Break attack and his Ultimate skill, Devastate Prey, inflicts a good amount of damage while having extra power when hitting an enemy with a lower HP %. More to this later!
Last, but not least, his Support Skill provides two interesting buffs to SJW: [Invincible King], that increases the duration of Break effects inflicted by 3 seconds, and [Invincible King's Path], that increases the damage on Broken targets by 100%.
At A0, using a Basic Skill restores Goto's MP by 50 and he increases his Critical Rate by 20% of his Critical Damage stat. Free stats are always welcome and it will help in ensuring that he can cap his Critical Rate to maximise his damage.
When he hits 5 stacks of the [Exorcise] buff, he grants the entire team the [Arrogance] buff, increasing the Critical Damage and Skill Damage by 20% while increasing their MP Consumption by 33%.
At A1, Goto's team members also receive the extended Break duration. He also applies the [Tyrant's Path] effect to all allies when entering a stage, increasing the damage dealt to Broken targets by 12%.
When his [Exorcise] buff hits 5 stacks it transforms in [Demonic Soul], changing his Skill 2 into Storm Blade, an enhanced version that deals an extra 50% damage. Using his Core Attack also increases the damage of his two skills by 10%.
At A2, Goto gains an extra 20% Break effectiveness increase.
At A3, using his QTE or Ultimate grants Goto a 20% Critical Damage buff for 12 seconds.
At A4 Goto grants 24% extra damage to the hunter in the third position of the party, but they also get 12% extra damage received, making it a double edged blade.
Finally, at A5 Goto can use his Skill 1 and 2 an extra two times, while gaining 10% extra damage with every subsequent cast. When his HP% is higher compared to the enemy, his Ultimate damage and Critical Damage when using the Ultimate increases by 60%.
Goto's weapon is pretty simple, giving him a Critical Damage buff when using his skill 2 Reverse Tempest or the buffed version, Storm Blade. This is great in order to also get more Critical Rate from the conversion, but as a newer player you don't need to max it asap since it won't affect his Breaking capabilities.
When it comes to sets, Goto best uses the 8 piece Greed for the simple reason that even though his personal damage is good, it’s still a far cry from an overbuffed hypercarry, which is exactly what the Greed set works towards. The other considerations are 4 Toughness + 4 Greed or 4 Curse + 4 Greed, as none of the damage Jewelry sets work that well with him, unlike the Toughness set that massively improves his Critical Damage and his Critical Rate thanks to his Passive. Solid Analysis is the way to go for more Break if you can’t get Greed pieces yet.
If you really need a non Burning Jewelry set, go for the Executioner set for Damage and the Sylph Blessing for Support, but honestly neither set is greatly advised compared to the Burning series unless you are bringing him to the guild boss - and even then, it’s up for debate.
You’ll be looking for HP (Flat and %), Critical Damage and Critical Rate mostly. For Damage Increase and Def Pen, you’ll want both but adjust their ratio depending on the content you’re tackling.
Goto is yet another mana hungry Hunter, so the HP piece of the Watcher set is crucial for longterm fights;
Ancient Wraith for Def is the best choice, but focus more on the raw stats as Goto doesn’t really need any of the sets here;
Lastly, the Atk slot goes to the Nameless Demon piece, as every other set bonus is irrelevant to Goto and Critical Damage is his preferred stat, even if you only profit off the buff for 8 seconds after Ultimate.
Being a Wind Breaker, Goto fits nicely in Wind teams with Mirei and Han Se-Mi.
He brings a lot of extra damage to the team compared to Jinchul, however, it's worth noting that Jinchul brings more survivability with his shields and the extra mobility granted by the dashes.
He's the superior choice when it comes to PoD where his extra Break damage and duration can set up some devastating damage windows on the dragon.
Goto brings a nice update to the Wind team, bumping up the damage while also granting powerful buffs to improve Mirei's performance. At the same time, he also increases the damage you receive at A4 while also increasing your MP consumption. He is a tyrant that requires you to adjust your playstyle accordingly and some players may miss the stability Jinchul provided with his shields. However, if you can adjust to these setbacks the damage increase should be noticeable compared to before.
It's important to note that we are getting closer to the one year anniversary for Solo Levelling Arise, at the time of this review. Because of this, we have to advise caution when rolling for a unit that is not directly released with new content. Considering Goto mainly brings more damage you might want to hold off a bit and see what Netmarble announces in the coming weeks, as his banner lasts an entire month. He’ll mostly see play in PoD and simulation gate as of now, since the Fire and Light teams combo remain the best for Guild Boss focused players. If you are a beginner/progressing player that is still progressing through hard mode Baran then Goto’s value skyrockets, since his high multipliers and Break power will help you a lot.
F2P: A1 grants Gojo a good early power spike, letting your Break phase last longer and increasing your damage to Broken targets;
Dolphins: A2 grants extra Break efficiency but the next big breakpoint is actually A4, with the buff provided to the third hunter in the team;
Whales: A5 and above. He's a DPS oriented breaker so you can benefit from extra ascensions since it will increase his max HP, giving you more leeway to activate the extra damage portion of Devastate Pray if you happen to get hit.
Goto Ryuji rating takes into account their performance in all matter of PVE content.

Goto Ryuji can be equipped with the Burning Curse set that you can obtain from the Workshop of Brilliant Light. As a Damage Dealer, Goto Ryuji can make use of the set and in most cases, it will perform better than the normal sets (2 piece is minimum, but you want all 8).

Those are the stats you should focus on when building Goto Ryuji. So search for them on your sub-stats as a priority.

For SSR characters, you always want to use their Signature/EX Weapon - they are simply the best for them. Until you obtain the signature weapon, just use the options listed below. The priority is set from left to right. Also, If you have a Signature/EX weapon for a Hunter that is not in your team you can consider using it for the raw stats alone - as long as it matches the character.
