Solemn Lament Yi Sang brings a constant source of Butterfly to the table of a Sinking Team while boasting a relatively high damage output himself. His unique Ammo, known as "The Living & The Departed" (distinct from Butterfly), where ammo is divided into Potency (The Living) and Count (The Departed), with their combined total maxing out at 20. Whether Potency or Count is consumed would be randomly determined. Some attacks would fully cancel if both ammos run out, leading to an immediate reload.
During the reload process, Yi Sang consumes SP, based on the current amount of The Living + The Departed (Ammo) you have, subtracted by 30, and then divided by 2. When gaining ammo back, you will either get The Living or The Departed based on ID’s current SP. If SP ≥ 0, 30% chance to gain The Living and a 70% chance to gain The Departed and vice-versa, if SP < 0. Probability is calculated separately for each ammo gained.
Before we go over his skills, for a detailed understanding of Butterfly, it is recommended to refer to our Advanced Combat Mechanics guide. But to go over it briefly, Butterfly is split into Potency (The Living) and Count (The Departed). For clarity, these will be referred to as "Butterfly Potency" and "Butterfly Count" to avoid confusion with Yi Sang’s ammo. Whenever a skill consumes The Living & The Departed and inflicts Butterfly, the inflicted Butterfly Potency or Count depends on which part of the ammo was consumed. For instance, if a skill uses 5 The Living on its first coin, it will apply 5 Butterfly Potency to the enemy.
Now let us finally take a loot at his skills'!
Skill 1: Celebration for the Departed - 2 Coin Skill, Base Roll – 12, Conditionals Met – 15.
Skill 2: Solemn Lament for the Living - 2 Coin Skill, Base Roll – 16, Conditionals Met – 21. This Skill can give you "The Living & The Departed" based on Resonance, and at a 4+ Absolute Resonance, instantly triggers a reload after attack. In most cases, you'll be refunded the ammo consumed to use this skill.
Skill 3: Goodbye Now, A Sorrow In You - 4 Coin Skill, Base Roll – 16, Conditionals Met – 28. This is the skill you want to use if you have your maximum combined value of "The Living & The Departed", where this skill consumes all ammo on its third coin and deals additional 4 more damage for every value of "The Living & The Departed" consumed, for a maximum of +80% damage on that coin, and additional damage equal to all Butterflies that are on the target.
Solemn Lament Yi Sang offers an incredibly consistent and straightforward playstyle, in which you want to inflict a lot of Butterfly on the target. This ID while not being net positive in applying Sinking Count is still considered okay as upon winning clashes against enemies, makes him Sinking Count neutral with his S1, and incurring -1 Sinking Count with both S2 and S3 which isn't exactly the worst thing in the world to your Sinking stack. Butterfly also just makes Sinking overall more effective, especially against enemies with SP and with Butterfly, this ID becomes an excellent source of Sinking Potency infliction, allowing you to stack Sinking significantly quicker.
Drawbacks for this ID are very situational most of the time. He has no other Sinking application outside of just Butterfly and he doesn't inflict any Sinking Count outside of winning Clashes which is not always possible to do so. Furthermore, you have no direct control over whether you receive The Living or The Departed. You primarily want to inflict Butterfly Potency on the enemy, and as you would always have more than 0 SP, you'll only get around 6 The Living as and 12 The Departed, which would impact the effectiveness of Butterfly as a whole.
No Notable E.G.O. Synergy
Excellent Butterfly and therefore, Sinking Potency infliction.
Great Clashes.
Great Damage.
Can allow the team to gain SP through Butterfly.
No Sinking Infliction outside of just Butterfly.
Passive impacts the amount of The Living you get vs The Departed, which would then impact how much Butterfly Potency and Butterfly Count you inflict.
Butterfly is useless without Sinking.
In this section we have listed best E.G.O.s, one per their rank for the Identity - starting with Zayin from left.
