Review

We have reworked our tier list owing to multiple meta shifts and how we rate characters. As such some of the reviews (especially of older characters) might not match the tier list ratings. Please prioritize the ratings given over provided Review. We will be working on updating all reviews, but it is a time-consuming endeavor.

Renee is a launch Fairy character who uses STR gear and is a Striker type. She’s a celebrity from the Republic of Chalar and even has a large fan club called "Silver Afterimage." Her knowledge of science and engineering is sharp, so she knows how to make and remodel her own weapons. Her kit was updated in November 2024, so let's take a look at her skills:

  • Passive - Gear Up: Causes her regular attacks to apply the “Permeation” debuff on enemies she hits, applying various debuffs to them while allowing her to activate the “Gear Up” buff on herself when she hits an enemy with 2 or more “Permeation” stacks. This buff gives her survivability in the form of Damage Reduction and Evasion. It also applies additional damage to her normal attacks based on “Permeation” stacks on the target.

  • Main - Machine Gun Punch: A single target attack that is at its base purely damage with a knock down effect. “Permeation” stacks enhance the damage of this skill, and if an enemy has 3 or more stacks, it also stuns them.

  • Ultimate - Supercompressed Energy Burst: Targets the nearest enemy and those within a small AoE around it, knocking all those hit far back. “Permeation” stacks enhance the damage of this skill if the main target has 3 or more stacks, and at 5 or more stacks further enhances the damage and adds a Stun to all targets hit.

  • Sub 1 - Shockwave Punch: A cone attack targeting the nearest enemy and those behind it, decreasing their Mana. “Permeation” stacks on the main target enhance the damage.

  • Sub 2 - Magnum Punch: A single target attack that applies a “Permeation” stack and increases Renee’s Speed. Does additional damage if the target has 3+ “Permeation” stacks.

  • Artifact – Nuada Airgetlam: Renee starts the battle with “Gear Up”, and using her Main Skill increases her Attack. At higher Ascensions, the buffs increase.

Despite the November 2024 buffs, Renee is still going to have a hard time finding a place among the top contenders. Her damage, while sufficient in regular content, lacks the assistance of Defense Penetration, which will put her well behind other DPS options once Guild Raid Bosses start stacking beyond the 999 cap. Her kit also lacks guaranteed  Crits and other helpful functions that the top Carries have to enhance their damage when dealing with various boss mechanics.

In 5v5 content she lacks the ability to move around the battlefield and target high-priority (backline) units, making her Mana Decrease less effective, and further emphasizing her lack of DEF Penetration as she hits the tanky frontline units. Her Evasion and survivability give her a niche role as a pseudo-Tank, a role she can pull off quite well while also bringing a decent amount of damage to the table over what traditional Tanks can provide.

She could see some use in Rudra due to her Fairy faction and access to Stun, but even here it would be in more of a Sub-DPS role than anything. Her Mana Control could find her some use in other Guild Raids such as Gaia or Charite, but with the amount of other options we’ve been given for that role now, it is unlikely.

Investment
  • New Players/F2P/Casual Players: Not a particularly high priority unit, as there are many other characters who fill the same role more easily.

  • Dolphins/Competitive Raid Players/Whales/Rankers: Likely one of the lowest priority units in the roster, but if you whale hard enough, everything becomes invested at some point.

Team Composition and Synergies

In regular content, Renee plays well with units that either enhance their teammates’ Evasion, or decrease the enemy’s Accuracy. Since she lives in the frontline and focuses her attacks on the enemy frontline, Supports that provide survivability paired with Defense Reduction would definitely be a boon.

Conclusion

Despite her November 2024 buffs, Renee still struggles to find a place among the top tier units in Eversoul. She’s part of the Fairy faction, which is quite frankly loaded with amazing options already, both in the DPS and Tank departments. That isn’t to say she can’t dish out respectable damage or function well as an Evasion Tank, it’s just that there are other units much higher on the priority list to focus on before putting investment into Renee, except in cases of character favoritism.
