Review

We have reworked our tier list owing to multiple meta shifts and how we rate characters. As such some of the reviews (especially of older characters) might not match the tier list ratings. Please prioritize the ratings given over provided Review. We will be working on updating all reviews, but it is a time-consuming endeavor.

Kurumi Tokisaki, from Date a Live collaboration is a Chaotic Soul released in November 2024. She is a DEX Ranger who primarily fulfills the role of a DPS. Let's take a look at her skills first:

  • Artifact/Special Skill – Nightmare: The bread and butter of Kurumi, her Artifact deals 50% Defense and Resistance penetrating 150~300% damage distributed across all enemies every 6 seconds, recovers her HP equal to 2-8% of her Max HP and gains some Mana. Lastly, it grants her a stack of “City of Devouring Time” (up to 5) which enhances her other skills.

  • Main - First Bullet “Aleph” : A single target skill that deals damage to the nearest target and increases her own Speed by 30% for 24 sec. Deals additional damage for every “City of Devouring Time” stack for 670% max and restores 2000 Mana at 5 stacks.

  • Ultimate - Seventh Bullet “Zayin”: A single target skill that deals damage to the nearest target and stuns it. Deals additional damage for every “City of Devouring Time” stack for 980% max.

  • Sub 1 - Bullet Dance : Deals damage in a small AoE radius of the nearest enemy, increases her Evasion and becomes immune to Knockback/CC for 7 sec. Deals additional damage if she has 5 “City of Devouring Time” stacks.

  • Sub 2 - Calamity Bullet : Deals damage in a AoE radius of the nearest enemy decreasing their Defense and HP recovery. Deals additional damage if she has 5 “City of Devouring Time” stacks.

  • Passive - Adonai Melek : Increases her Speed at battle start, and increases her Critical Rate and Critical Damage by 30/60% respectively if she has Speed buff (self sustaining with her Main Skill.)

Our first collaboration soul, Kurumi Tokisaki is as DPS as it can be. Her entire kit is focused on nothing but dealing non-stop damage and helping her achieve the same. She boasts some great multipliers on her skills, with her Artifact granting her additional benefits based on “City of Devouring Time” stacks. She primarily targets the nearest enemy, dealing both Single Target and AoE damage.

Kurumi has a few things worth noting, first her Artifact, that constantly deals damage on the field by just existing, a good method to get rid of some pesky leeches at surviving miniscule amount of HP without wasting your team skills, and it holds some good potential in Guild Raid S2 due to its Defense/Resistance piercing abilities, furthermore the self-heals allow her to survive a bit longer as she primarily tangles with frontline tanks/bruisers. She is a decently fast unit due to innate Speed buffs and tons of Mana recovery!

Now for the issues, her Artifact damage cannot be a Critical Hit, lowering its damage potential significantly. Next up is her skills targeting, while not a deal breaker, it is important to note that they all target the nearest enemy, which in most cases will end up being - the enemy Tank/Bruisers. Although she can make quick work of enemy bruisers and most tanks due to her high damage numbers, Daphne tends to shut her down significantly due to her immortality gimmick, something Lizelotte can surpass via built-in dispel or Aki simply ignores due to targeting backline in first place. In Guild Raids she is hard pressed to replicate her performance as Main DPS, thus being relegated to Sub-DPS at best with her struggling to fit into many of the current teams. She holds the greatest potential in Pluto Raid but there is a severe issue of survival with Bosses Attack stacks being uncapped in Guild Raid S2.

Note: Guild Raid’s Meta is due for a major reshuffle following introduction of Guild Raid S2, so take these opinions with a grain of salt for we don't know what future holds, if you want to be sure, please wait till a Guild Raid is run next week.

Investment
  • Collection:  Get at least 1 copy regardless of if you plan to use them or not.

  • New / F2P / Casual Players: Kurumi is absolutely a great pick for newbies, and while stocks last she can be comfortably picked over Aki as the go to choice of Origin. She deals comparative damage although has a bit lower ceiling, but due to her requiring no Artifact investment whatsoever, she is very quick to raise to her max potential compared to Aki. With Banner providing 7 Dupes in 300 Mileage and Event giving 4 Dupes more, players only need to pull 3 Kurumi in 300, a feat rather easily achievable. For those a bit deeper into the game, she's certainly not a bad DPS for secondary teams in Depths.

  • Dolphins / Competitive Raid Players / Whales / Rankers:  Kurumi just struggles in Raids due to a combination of being not so stellar Main DPS and being squishy. While her Artifact’s Defense Piercing damage and  Sub 2 Defense down holds great potential in Guild Raid S2, there is risk of her failing to survive an ever growing stronger boss, but should she successfully do that, she can be a premier DPS in S2 season.

Team Composition and Synergies

For Kurumi Tokisaki, the most important ally is a Speed Buffer, to ensure her Passive always stays active and she can do her rotation even faster to kill the frontline before they pose a threat to her survival. She will also appreciate fellow Frontline Bruisers/DPS to take a load off her shoulder such as Linzy etc or tanks like Claire which penetrate deep into enemy formation taking the backline DPS attention on themselves. Attack and damage buffers are always a welcomed addition to the team.

Conclusion

Kurumi Tokisaki, much like Tohka, is a soul primarily aimed at New Players, she deals great damage right off the bat and due to lack of Artifact Investment, she hits her max potential as soon as you Origin the soul, an easy feat if you 300 her banner + do the event. In later stages of the game, she is still comparable to great DPS like Linzy/Hazel/Erusha and can slot into your PVE/Depths team easily. However, her future in Guild Raids is hard to judge due to her squishiness and Guild Raid S2 gearing out to be harder than even with infinite Attack stacks.

Ideally if you are an old player and can hold your hand, it is best to wait for next week when we get our first iteration of Guild Raid S2, to see what is in store for her, as it might increase her potential even more!

Tohka vs Kurumi, who to pull?

If you are starting anew, Kurumi is most definitely the premier choice to Origin as she can carry your team blazing fast through the early and mid-game. While Tohka is also great, she is more of a defensive character, something you will not feel the need for until late into game when 3 teams start to appear and your Daphne/Chloe no longer cut it alone.

Guild Raid/Overall wise, Tohka is ironically the better of the two as things stand due to Tohka’s near guaranteed slot in as Karma Shackles bait in Gaia and ability to function as Shield Bot in Charite at the least all the while dealing decent damage as Sub-DPS, whereas Kurumi will compete with dozens of established Sub-DPS/Secondary DPS to wrestle a spot from them whilst struggling to survive.

However as we said above, if you can wait, best to do so until S2 starts officially.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • High DPS capabilities.

  • Self-buffs enhance her kit significantly.

  • Does not require Artifact Investment as it scales automatically with her ascension.

  • True Limited Unit.

Cons

  • Low damage output in Guild Raid scenarios.

  • Primarily a  PVE Character, so bit less value addition to old players.

  • Somewhat slow for a character with so much Mana Recovery and innate Speed buffs.
